i've got a question for you g . What type of motor where you running ? gas or glow ? if gas what type of ignition ?
if electronic how was your range with motor running? if you can see major diff between motor on and off you can be pretty sure that there is alot rf noise comming from the ignition . this could be the cause of some irratic problems.
I to have been left wondering after a crash and that is a pretty desperate feeling. the only cure i have found is to test,test,test,... and if you have an old stick laying around test your radio gear in that plane before you put it in you imac airplane. keep the faith .

What I do is send my receivers to Radio South to have them set to Channel 38. Once that is done, I can usually range test my plane with my 9C to about 300-350 feet. Makes a big difference. I have only about 25 feet of difference with engine on vs off. I don't suspect any range problems, just that something cause my plane not to respond to my transmitter. When I am giving full up and it is doing an outside loop, something is not right. I had the correct model selected and I check all the controls to make sure nothing was backwards before I took off.

Hello Geisty:
I have an explanation for what could have caused your crash, not saying this is the ONLY possibility, but it would explain the crash and the correct behavior of your radio before and after the crash. Vibration of metal on metal will cause this exact problem. When you throttle up, the vibration amplitude gets worse and this can command some servos to go full tilt in one direction. I observed this exact same scenario in a friend's plane with a 3W-75, only his plane went straight up because it went to full up elevator. I yelled for him to throttle back and he regained complete control. On the ground, I found that he had 4/40 pushrods to the elevators with metal clevises. The fix was to put locknuts on the clevises so they couldn't vibrate against the rod. My guess is that only the elevators had trouble because the servo wires for the elevators were close to the clevis.

That could be, but the plane had over 200 flights on it. I also had someone suggest that wind shear did it. I would have thought that crazy until today. I saw a a guy crash a 1/3 scale laser on landing when a down draft shoved his plane down about 35 feet with no forward motion.

I normally take off at about half throttle so this would exasperate the problem.
