Default 50cc Plane?

I'm looking for a good IMAC plane to use with a DA50. It's must be able to use a canister muffler as sound levels are critical at my field. I am considering a Wild Hare Extra or Edge. Has anyone put as canister muffler in one of these? Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Hello,

I have a 81" Velox from Aerotech. Awesome performance and a great value. Take a look at www.aerotech-rcmodels.com

Hi Ted,
How was the hardware that came with it. Is it complete(control horns and pushrods) and what qaulity? Anything you replaced?
Have you weighed yours yet?
Post some pics if you can.
Thanks

Hello,

I have this same plane. I used everything in the kit. Its all first class stuff. Chip Hyde control horns you name it. You need to buy wheels, tank, fuel line, rudder pull pull, throttle cable and thats it. Plane flies great. I have 80 flights on mine with a DA50. That ARF is been well thought out.

Thanks

Dave B.

So - has anyone installed a canister style muffler in one of these? I want to use a DA50 but the airframe has to be able to accept a canister muffler.

Thanks

Hey Laserdude have you considered the Composite Arf with a tuned pipe? I have one ready for maiden, and have seen one fly. From all accounts they are an awsome combo.
Cheers Matt

Sorry Laserdude, I have the 2.3 in the JR colours with a DA50 and KS tuned pipe. Does anyone know how to post pictures?

Go to the Wilhare forum I think Tom put some cannesters in one of the 28% Extra's. Ask Tom

The Aeroworks 29% Katana is designed for a canister on the DA 50. I've surpassed 85 flights on mine and love it. Check the giant scale forum for more info on it.

If you are not in a hurry, wait for the extreme flight rc Yak-54.
Already has a tunnel built in for a tuned pipe.

They have a good price on them right now as well (A LOT less than what I paid!!).

ilrcflyboy do you have the cannester on yours? I'm in the process of assembly on mine & would like to do the cannester as well. Did you use the KS from DA & if so what header or combo of plumbing to get the exhaust to the can.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes they have a header but it will take a Swan neck type of pipe to get from the side of the jug on the engine to the center of the fuse. They sell a short "manifold" and all kinds of "plumbing" pieces to get what you need but without knowing just what to use I guess I'll have to buy a bunch of different pieces to get the shape I need & then someone to weld it all up. Better yet do a little measuring & get some one to make me a pipe with the demensions I need. I think Paul at Just Engines is pretty efficent at doing this!

Here is a pic of what I'm talking about

Another option is the Chip Hyde Vision 3D... 85" wing, 1420 sq. in. of wing area and about 16.5 lbs or under... You can even play around a bit and mount the tank on CG.

Designed with a pipe tunnel under the plane and a specific header from DA is available for this setup...

They are too new for many reports but the video is pretty awesome as far a 3D goes... Chip does a little IMAC flying in it too... 8 point rolls... knife edge circles with half rolls in between.

I have one here that I stripped the covering off of to recover later this winter... beautifully design and built.

It's not quite that complicated. I sent DA a message asking if they had a header to work with the DA50 and the pipe on a Katana. This header is sometime referred to as a question mark header. This is the response I got from DA: "We do sell the header that Aeroworks used in the 29% Katana. The header is a mtw double bend 50mm drop header and costs $36.00 plus shipping."

Just contact DA and they will help you.
