I liked my ZDZ 80 but felt more in control with throttle on the twins entering and exiting verticals and 45s I flew smoother with the twins.I did not know about the carb switch that might have made the difference. Thanks for all the good info keep it coming. I am still on the fence. Thanks Mark,

Standards mufflers are esier to install and work fine but tuned canister are the way to go on this Kind of aircraft.
All 2 cycle motorcycles ( motocross, street etc ) for example have a tuned canister because it gives a better transition and more power .
In europe everybody uses canisters.

I like the performance gains and noise reduction of the tuned pipe but I spent as much time modifying my lainer 90"and installing pipe as assembling the plane. And that is not why buy ARFs. Mark,

Cubdriver,
Thanks, you verbalized what I was thinking. The first 32 years of RC I bought and held. Lately (last 2 years) I buy, fly, then sell and buy new. I don't like to modify something I will probably sell next year. I think I will buy a DA100 for the AW 33% Extra. You never have a problem selling a DA and no mods.

mods?
making the planes quiet is modifying?
I also have done RC for 32 years and frankly -loud exhausts are not my cup of tea.
I am still wondering why so many writers here consider anything more than bolting on a prop- a mod.
I am sure you have learned the basics for these mods .
Do your fellow fliers all run those little exhaust stacks?

Dick,
Where did you buy the header and KS can from?? What size can is appropriate for the ZDZ 80? I'm using the JA muffler from RC showcase, don't find the noise level objectionable. But is you can get more power and a quieter engine, I'd be willing to try one.

Getting back to your airplane I suggest you take a look at the thread about the DR-107. It is a really light airplane at just 23lbs plus it is built right. I've seen it fly and it is a top notch imac airplane and great for 3d.
