Hello all
We are asking for any ideas on how to get a 3M Extra in a box from LA to Desert Aircraft in Tucson or Anna Woods place at Queens Creek. We arrive in LA on Wed 28th of September.
The box is too big for Domestic Airlines to carry.
We are trying to avoid having to rent a vehicle in LA and driving to Tucson.
Any help, ideas appreciated.

what about forward air? they ship from LA to Tuscon. Just an idea, thats what most folks use here in the US when they sell/ship large airplanes. They are very reasonable on price as well. The only thing is the bottom of the box needs to be elevated via 2x4s, etc, so the forklift can get under the box.

Forward air has a terminal south of downtown Phoenix. If you go to www.forwardair.com you will be able to find the LA station. The only issue is how long it will take to get it. It could be a couple of days.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The box is too large for Fedex, UPS and DHL.
Dimensions 108"L x 17"W x 32"H Weight 70lbs max.
Will investigate the Grey Hound idea. Might be able to travel with it and have a snooze.
Thanks
Alan.
Keep the idea's coming.

Alan,
If you do go with Forward Air and get the box shipped, by them, from LA to the terminal in Phoenix, Len and I can drive on over, with the truck, and pick it up.
Part of the reason Forward Air is reasonable is that you go and deliver your shipment to their terminals. I suspect you can pay an expediting fee to get it shipped from LA to PHX quicker.
Biggest trick for Frazer and Mike will be getting the box from the airline to the Forward Air terminal. Their terminal is near Hawthorne Airport, a few miles away from LAX. I suspect Frazer and Mike are hoping not to have to go off airport to get to a shipper. Maybe there is someone in the LA area that would meet Frazer and Mike at LAX and help with getting their plane over to the Forward Air terminal near Hawthorne Airport. Someone with a pickup truck, as the box will be pretty big.
Any options for shipping direct from NZ to PHX. Len and I can go and get the box if can get to the valley.
Regards,
Anna

Alan,
If you guys need some help once here in PHX area...as always Greg and I can help. I now live about as far from the Moon as Greg did too...so that doesn't help much. But I can help out in picking up, or shop space if you guys need it.
I'll hook up with you guys, let me know when you are getting here and we can meet out there like last year.
Should be a good time like last year.
shoot me an email private like

Here is the link to the Greyhound Shipping service, Greyhound Package Express.

That is a good bet for you guys. Len and I have had foam wing cores shipped by them from CA to their terminal in Chandler, AZ. Real close to the house. :-) They will ship some big packages for a reasonable charge. You don't need to travel with the packages, either.

Thanks for all your help
After exploring the options that we thought of collectively, our thinking is we will take a one way rental to PHX and enjoy the hospitality of our good friends in PHX, Apache Junction and Queens Creek.
Thank-you for your input

Anna,
On behalf of the East Valley Aviators RC Club, I want you and the Kiwi team to know that if the Rittenhouse field has become too rough to fly off of, you are all very welcome to come fly at EVA. We'd love to have them.[8D]

Thanks very much for the offer. I am sure all the guys appreciate it very much.
Anna
P.S. After the Shootout is done and we have a week or two to decompress, I will be contacting you guys about the IMAC event you guys want to host. I can't believe the 2005 contest season is almost complete and we are looking forward to 2006.
