Default rolls and snaps on loops?

I think I know the answer to this one - I was reading the judging downgrades for '05, and it indicated rolls in a loop must NOT be on a straight line.. But I want to be sure..

When the figure is a loop, and at the bottom (as an example) there is a roll (or half of one), and or a snap - my understanding is that the loop should be a 'perfect' loop as if the roll and or snap were not part of it (?), and as a result the roll and or snap must be done on a 'loop' line - I mean NOT on a straight line?

Gotta smile here, with unlimited vertical, there is suddenly this temptation to put the thing out of sight on the top of the loop, so the loop's line is SO close to straight that this part of the figure becomes very easy. But in reality, I know the REALLY big loop makes this easier.. (but 7 surgeries (and counting) on my spine severely limit the top of my loops - not too flexible I mean - my spine)

Cheers,
Bob

(specifically advanced '06 #4- I think)

Bob,

You read correctly. The roll and snap must follow the "loop line" as you called it. Keep in mind that making the loop bigger just brings more downgrades to the looping portion possible!

Yep, that #4 is a real bugger. What I have been trying to do is stary my 1/2 roll pretty close to 5 o'clock and finsh just past 6. This takes a ton of rudder and you wil have to get into a little bit of power while doing it as well. I initiate the snap at about 6:30 with a slightly nose high attitude and the snap finishes at about 7 o'clock. The rolls themselves don't need to be centered up as the snap is going to happen much faster than the 1/2 roll. The important thing is that the rolls beginning and end look symmetrical and the 1/2 roll follows an arc. Lots of guys have commented on how difficult this one is. Reality is that I don't think I will get it completly right but it sure is fun trying.

Thanks guys - I have been working on this thinking it was this way.

Ken - that is exactly my problem with the massive loops - by the time I get back to the start, I often have forgotten where that was (oops).. I use smoke often for this, but for LARGE figures, the smoke has dissipated..

Shawn - thanks for that too, I think I have been sort of placing the figures near those spots (on the clock face) - but I can see the advantage to have a real plan - I'll try that..

Cheers,
Bob
