Gas engine for H9 EDGE
I put one together with a FPE 40 gasser swinging a 20-10 prop and it flies great! I put the elevator servos in the tail to help it balance out . The plane came in at 12.5 lbs , has unlimited vertical, waterfalls great does great blenders and awesome inverted flat spins!! the engine cost $ 500 comes with ignition and a smoke ready pitts muffler

Mine with MVVS 1.6 gas is the same weight as a friends with a MAckay 30cc, 12lbs.
They fly identically, only the Mackay has unlimited vertical at about 2/3 throttle, the MVVS hardly takes the thing vertical unless it goes in with speed. |

Anyone running an ST 2300 on one of these things?

Gas engine for H9 EDGE
I would think gas is too heavy and worry about the shakes little gassers make at idle. I have a satio 180 with 17/6 and 16/8 prop
burn cool power pro 20% have no prob. pulling out of hover quick if I need to. ps. i came in at 12.7 lbs. reg radio gaer w 1100mah 6 volt pack |
hehe....
I have a BME 44 in mine, and it is 14 lbs dry....Sure, it is heavy, and I agree that lower wingloading is MUCH better than higher wingloading, given the same engine power, but my BME 44 has ample power to do practically anything...
I would not necessarily go this direction the next time, but enjoy it nonetheless. |

How much do you want for the plane and engine? :D
Originally posted by drandles I sold the Edge and bought a Dave Patrick 330L w/ Brison 3.2. That was a much better engine/plane combination, but I'm already set to sell that one too. Dale |

Gas engine for H9 EDGE
I almost forgot we were talking about the H9 Edge 540. I did a second maiden flight on a buddies H9 Edge 540 this weekend. He crashed on the original maiden flight due to "radio" problems - I think it was one of those reversing Y's that may have helped him make an unplanned landing. He rebuilt the Edge and put in a BME44. I took it up and trimmed it out for him, but considering the planes history I didn't want my hands on the sticks too long. He had removed the reversing Y, but ...... The plane flew well. I landed it for him. This is when I realised that it was heavy. It dropped radiply in landing. This is a great plane but a gas engine just makes it heavy.

30cc (1.80) gas engines for H9 Edge
Hi Randy,
a lot of our customers have chosen to fit our 30 cc gas engine/ muffler combination. Dave Ashcroft gets 7200 rpm on the ground with an Engel Carbon 20/12 prop with his Mackay 30 and Krumscheid Canister Muffler. 16 ounce tank for 20 minute flights and Unlimited Vertical performance... Have a look at our website at www.moki.co.uk for more info. rgds Stuart |

see attached pic of Dave Ashcroft's Edge with Mackay 30 HDS and KS 76 muffler. Menz prop 20/8 for running in, now flying on a 20/12 Engel Carbon.

Mackay 30 - RCS 1.80?
That MacKay looks identical to US version of the RCS 1.80!

That's because it is. They are MOKI engines, with different distributors names on the stickers.

Want even more grunt in your edge??
John Keats has fitted Mackay 30 Front Induction and KS 1025 Pipe fitted in a tunnel recess in lower fuselage...20/12 Mejzlik prop at 8000 on ground.

I have a HANGAR 9 EDGE 540 and am putting a fox 3.2 on it and have been told by many people that they do in fact fly great on a light weight gas engine, many people around here have a fox 2.4 or 3.2 on their H9 540 and they love them. I guess I will find out when I get it finished. Just lookin for suggestions of servos to put into it now.

i think im going to go with the moki 1.8 instead of the os 1.60fx, and im going to do everything in my power to lighten it to less than 11-1/2 pounds

Mackay vs. RCS
Are you guys sure that Mackay and RCS engines are the same?!? The numbers coming off the Mackay seem awful good compared to what I've seen out of the RCS 180. I wouldn't call it a great comparison, but I saw the RCS 180 at a fun fly and it didn't seem to have much poop at all. The guy was running avgas, so I'm not sure what to think.
Anyone experince the RCS engine? How well does it pull? |
Gas engine for H9 EDGE
I have to agree with those who want more power than the OS 160. I have the H9 Edge w/OS 160 combo and the power is not as impressive as I'd planned on. I have very limited time on it, and the engine isn't broke in yet. 3 flights in a row with dead stick landings and I'll tell you what, that thing will glide forever! I think it depends on the kit and how careful you are putting it together. I got very lucky and also paid extreme close attention to all construction steps, but I can't see any bad habits so far, glide and stalls are amazing! This plane is very capable and I can't wait to get more time on it so I can truely brag it up. Some bad experiences out there with this plane have put a bad taste in the air, but there's more to it than some may know. The wing thing didn't help its reputation any, that's for sure. I know a couple people who were well beyond ticked off when they lost theirs due to wing failure. Other than the one piece wing, I sure love mine so far.

Gas engine for H9 EDGE
A bit off track here, but I just got a carbon fiber landing gear, for My H9 Edge.
from Moose Carbon fiber. It is about 7/8" narrower, 7/16 taller, BUT it is 4 ounces lighter . Looks very good also. http://moosecarbonfiber.tripod.com/index.html |

tell me how u like it, i will order mine as soon as i get all my things together
|
Gas engine for H9 EDGE
It may be a couple of days before i fly it, but I see no reason to not like it. The quality looks to be very good, it looks good on the plane, it feels to be very strong.
I was very pleased that it weighed so much less than the stock gear. The stock gear is just a hair over 7 oz., this one is 3 oz. |

What are you using for wheels? I'm having trouble finding some nice light weight ones, that won't go flat under 12lbs of pressure.
|
Gas engine for H9 EDGE
Balsageek
I'm using Dubro, light wheels, I don't have a problem with them getting flat. I did have to glue them to the rims because I had one roll off on landing. The same thing happened to the Dubro lite's on my 30% Carden Extra, they are glued now too. |
