Hello,
My P80 (5.5 hours) is sputtering a little bit at idle.
Is it normal or do you have any fix.
Thank you for your help.
Alain

Hello,
This is generally caused by a bit of unburned fuel dripping into the combustion chamber. As Vin said this is not generally charadteristic of a P-80.
In my experience it does not effect operation. On your next service I am sure they can clean it up.
Hope that helps,

Hi,
Hope it is ok for me to add my P80 problem to this thread since it is somewhat related to the topic.
My P80 has about 2 hours running time on it. It sputters (once every 5-15 seconds) during idle and also during the ramping up. Every time it sputters, I see a small flame shooting out. If looking directly into the nozzle from the rear of the engine, the flames seem to appear between the 1-5 o'clock positions. The engine runs well and I encounter no other problems.
Any advise on this?
Thanks.
Isaac

Hello,
Same answer as above, this is generally caused by a bit of unburned fuel dripping into the combustion chamber. As Vin said this is not generally characteristic of a P-80.
In my experience it does not effect operation. On your next service I am sure they can clean it up. If it is bothering you I wouls send it in, but if it is running OK I would fly it until it needs other service.

I have only noticed this behavior from p-80's myself. It did not seem to affect the way the engine ran at all. I later found on the GTBA website, that sputtering can also be caused from oil coming off the rear bearing and hitting the hot turbine wheel...don't know if this is the case here or not.......
