Default Using the I/O board with built-in charge plug

Just want to confirm - with the "LED I/O Board with Charge Plug Part# A1028-CP", is the battery completely isolated from the ECU ?

I believe that when people have used Y-connectors in the past to allow an ECU battery to be charged without pulling the multiplex connector out of the ECU, this has supposedly only worked for certain types of battery / charger combos (otherwise ECU damage could result).

So, does this Charge board isolate the battery so that it's safe to charge ANY battery type with any charger without pulling the plug out of the ECU ? Or is it just a version of the old Y-connector method, so that only certain combo's are still safe ?

In case it's the latter - I have a 3-cell A123 ECU battery, and an FMA Cellpro Multi-4. Can I charge through this I/O board safely, without removing the connection to the ECU ?

Thanks,
Gordon

P.S. Does the part come with all necessary wiring / connectors etc to be a 'drop-in replacement' for the regular I/O board ? Or do I need to get Bob to add some extra wiring harness stuff to the order that I just placed ?

I don't know if it isolates or not, but I always take the lead out of the ECU.

On your second question the unit comes with a lead to connect too the ECU, your existing battery lead plugs into the back of the unit.

Hi Gordon,

Answer coming soon I have the call in. I am almost positive that this is an electrical connection only, no additional isolation, so no advantage over a Y lead.

The bigger question is does this cell pro charge protocol use a reverse polarity pulse.

More later. I am going to A123 as well so lets compare notes!

EDIT: Confirmed that it is the same as a "Y". The reverse (or "reflex") mode is only used on NiCads, so the A123 should be fine to charge through the new I/O board with the ECU connected.
