Default Danny, please help??

Hi Danny,

I have a brand new composite Arf impact pattern ship which is fitted out with pretty
much all new gear.
new 10x receiver
new ds3401 elevator servos
new de8231 aileron servos
used ds8411 rudder servos (on pull-pull)
new ds3401 on throttle.
10X transmitter 2 year old

The problem is when range testing, I can only get between 10 and 20 meters then both elevators
start working in opposite directions eratically then after some time the fail safe kicks in.
I have another pattern plane with the same set-up and I get 50m before fail safe comes in (no problems with that plane, done 300+
flights).
The ailevators do not go crazy on that plane.
I have tried the following:
*Taken antenna out of fuse and ran it outside.
*tried 4 cell pack
*used receiver out of other pattern plane, still does not improve.
*replaced extension leads on elevators.
*disconected other servos from rx
*moved stabs further away from fuse.
*tried another TX.
*tried a hitec fm RX and got double the range.
*tried JR PCMS RX same as R1000 (no good).
*also tried JR chokes

The 10X transmitter works fine on all other planes other than the impact and
my aresti which did the same thing as this, it went fail safe after take off and crashed.
Range tested that and elivators went crazy on that plane.
The easy answer is to say get the TX and RX tested, but they are not the problem as other
RX do the same thing and the TX works fine on my other planes.

I have another set of crystals here to try, and the Australian JR DEALER also sent me another
RX antenna, and wants me to add another half to the antenna length.

do you have any suggestions, I'm very frustrated and confused.

Regards Glenn O
Australia.

It sounds like you've done a pretty good amount of testing on that. Is the range you stated with engine running or without? Is there a large difference between engine on vs. off? I'm not sure which receivers you are using, are some single conversion (grey receiver crystal) and some dual conversion (red receiver crystal) and are they properly matched to the receiver being used?

Danny,

problem solved!!!!!!!
I earlier tried JR chokes on the elevator leads but that made no difference.
As I only had two chokes, I was not able to use one on the rudder at the time.
I tried it again with the rudder servo disconnected and it all worked fine.
So with chokes on elevator and on the rudder servo I have no issues (great range now).
What I don't understand is that the rudder servo is near to the receiver as it a pull-pull
set-up and has no extension leads. Why would this effect my range.
Faulty rudder 8411 servo???
Any way it all works well with the chokes.
I have never used these before as I've had no other problems untill recently with my last couple
of planes.
My 2.3 extra has been doing simalar things, but in the air......
I might be able to solve that problem now with the chokes..........lets hope, fingers crossed.

thanks for your help.

It could be noise from the cables, and then in turn affecting the range. It is possible that there could be something going on with the servo, to be sure you would need to send it in for a check up. But that is great to hear that you located the problem and found a solution!

I need to replace the antenna on a 50 mhz pcm10 940 receiver on chanel 4 50.88mhz
I calculate 55.18 inches for this (quater wave length)
Is this the correct length?

The antenna should be 1 meter or 39" long.
