Default 8611 Conversion

If I send servos in to be converted, do they get the new case only or do they get both case and the new motor?

Also... I have a couple new cases here, but they do not have bearings in the top half. How do I get the bearing out of the old cases without damaging them. Also, what is best to use for lube in the new cases (pins, etc...) I can't find anyone that sells servo grease any more.

Thanks.

If you send in 8611's for the case top upgrade, only the case top will be changed. The servo will not be converted to the 8611A with the new motor. I assume you mean the bushing for the pin in the case top? If so, it is a press fit, and may be difficult to remove. It will take some prying with some type of a small tool that will fit inside the bushing to pry it out. The bushing comes installed in the 8611 cases.

I do not mean the bushing. I mean the top bearing for the splined output shaft. Is it easy to remove and install in the new case top?

Also... what for lube?

Thanks.

Generally the bearing stays on the output gear when removed. If not, it would simply pop out of the case.

Cool. Just wanted to check before I started turning wrenches.

Send them in for service with a note explaining what needs to be done.

Danny,

What is the upgrade cost for the new motor, assuming everything else on the servo is in good condition?

We do not offer this upgrade. You would need to purchase a new servo.

Danny - Is this conversion a recall? I am happy so far with the performance of my original 8611's and there is a great deal of effort and down time involved in sending them in. I have 2 of them on rudder and 4 on airlerons, 2 elevator on my 33% plane. I don't feel they are being pushed anywhere near their limit so will it be OK to continue using them without the conversion?

No, there isn't any recall on the 8611. It is just an upgrade to the case which allows it to better withstand higher shock loads like flutter and bumping of a control surface etc. In normal operation it will not change anything of the performance of the servo. You can use the servos without any extra risk or anything like that. I've had the case top crack on a model in the past, and the only thing you can notice is an increase in what appears to be gear slop, but the servo will still function normally. If you notice an increase in gear slop, it may be the servo case.
