One out of two times the GSU, doesn't come light up with info, just blank. Is this normal or is the GSU defective. Thanks Kelly

Doesn't sound normal to me..
Double check your connection.

Also make sure you have 6 volts going into your ECU from your RX. Suggest to run 2 power cables into ECU.
The GSU has a micro processor that likes 6v or over.
This ONLY affects the GSU NOT the ECU while flying.
