Default Wing Struts

Hi Guys,

Please, I need a little help. I'm completing the build on a partially built .40 size Bud Nosen Citabria high wing, without plans, that requires wing struts like a Piper. I've never done this before and I need someone to shoot me a photo that shows the mechanism of how they attach to the fuselage. I'm going to shape them out of wood dowels unless you suggest a better way. I did a search on the forums but only saw two types that are not suitable to my model because the belly of the plane is a built up rounded surface. Just a good digital picture should be enough. Happy Holidays and Thanks.

Usually, you cut a slot in each side of the fuse and slide a strip of aluminum through it (which is anchored to a block of plywood inside the fuse)

My Sr Telemaster uses 5/16x5/8" hardwood (bass wood?) for a strut, and I bolted aluminum strips to the strut. The Telemaster is a 10 lb plane, so you can size the struts accordingly. The wing has a couple of hardwood mounts and the fuselage uses the landing gear block to fasten the struts. It's better to use bolts and blind nuts to secure the struts, but screws will work on smaller planes. Dowels will work for struts, but they have a lot more drag than a flatter or more airfoil shaped strut. The WWI guys figured that out pretty quickly! Unless you make exact duplicates, it's probably wise to mark the struts "left" and "right".

I used airfoild aluminum from Tower hobbies to make struts on my Midwest Citabria

The sturts begin on post # 123 - near the bottom of page 5
