Default Lightweight struts?

I just received my second Balsa USA EAA Bipe and it looks better than the last. I'm having a ball putting it together but I noticed something; the cabanes, struts, and landing gear (pre bent) wire weighs in at a whole pound - that's 16 oz plus of solid steel. I'm thinking 5/32" steel is way over the top to just hold the top wing on an 8lb plane. Has anyone replaced these with something weighing a little less?
