Four Star 60 Kitbash Thoughts

In the current Model Aviation there is a plan / build report on a low wing somewhat eliptical golden age type model design. I want to say it's the Miss - E but that may be the high wing electric also featured??. What would be your thoughts about kitbashing the Four Star 60 to this new shape.
My thoughts are the 60 is quite similar already requiring some outer wing work and I think this will be the most major change.
Relocation of the the main gear from fuse to wing.
Moving the cockpit rearward with some turtle deck modifcation
Some tail feather modificatons
Having built many kits over the years and done some kit bashing as well, this would be well within my capability. My question is one of aerodynamics.... Do you think I could safely transform the 60 and end up with something that would be a ncie flyer similar to the four star. With all the wing area of the 60 and having shortened the span in the past on the 40 size, I don't think losing area would hurt. But it's loosing it to the shape of the elliptical outline that concerns me. I'm not sure if design requirements for elliptical type wings require changes either to airfoil or other areas, incidence, etc that I'm unaware of? It's something I'm thinking about for a winter build.

I have done all of what you are thinking of, A 4 star doesn't seem to be bothered at all by it. I really like the gear in the wing better than the fuse mounted setup. You can round the tips, or even remove a wing bay each side and its still a well behaved plane...

yeah.. On the 40 I removed a bay, added hollowed teardrop shaped balsa wingtips, rounded the stab to match the wing and flipped the canopy around. I'll try to scan a pic from the magazine of what I'm looking to accomplish with a 4* 60 when I get home. My .40... may she rest in peace

heres a 4 star 60 fuse i bashed into a tempest ...it flew like a baby. then I decided to rebuild my airplane racks in the basement..i was building all the posts to fit each plane..i THOUGHT I had it clamped as I turned for some tools and the plane fell about 7 feet on to the cement floor and just trashed it. I had built the cowl out of wood and it broke the fiberglass finish so bad I just was disgusted and stripped it out. I sill have the wing and may build a wider fuse for it that can accept a small conversion motor...
But this shows what can be done...I have also built a cool little ME109, and helped a buddy build a Spitfire..

foodstik - GR8 work! Got any more pics? Sorry about the "crash". Gotta share - what kind of fiberglass finish did you do?
Definitely needs more tail authority - rudder & elevator. My box stock 4Star60 w/ YS110 needs a bit more control out back.
Of course - ya gotta do a build thread ...

The sad thing is I did a super detailed weathered paint job, panel lines, and even all painted on emblems, invasion stripes(THE WORKS) and I am not sure I ever took a picture of it !
I used a very light cloth and an epoxy resin..Clark systems? I can't recall the name..very good stuff though. I honestly don't even like to think about it..it flew so well, and it got flown so little ! Why I made the stupid mistake of letting it fall to the floor i will never know.
I think I posted a picture of the wing on another 4 star thread somewhere around here. I DID take a picture of the wing...after the fuse was gone...
I have always thought I might kit bash another 4 star sometime, I even tried to get a bunch of guys online to all kit bash a bunch of them together as a fun build..but it never seemed to work out...
I might have to build that fuse again though, and a bit wider
I like the small gas engines now.
If a guy found the right cowl and canopy, then made the four star fit them ..he could make many sorta scale planes out of it...

Here is the plan ffrom the current MA Mag that I was looking to kitbash the 60 into. Now that I look at it more closely the rounded tips shouldn't present any sissues. I recalled it being more eliptical at first glance. it's called the Mister-E. Just need to compare dimensions to try and keep the same ratios so it generally has the same overall look and proportions. The fuse looks sort of golden age racer mixed with a spitfire and I like the forward swept LG.
