My LT40 has a roll rate of, em, 360 degrees in 10 seconds (maybe longer) at SIG throw specifications. A bit of a twist just may help.
Thought I'd share my LT's tail. Practicing sheeting for my GPExtra 300S ...

Didja have to add any lead to balance it out? My last LT-40 was an arf and I had to add about 3/4 of an oz. on the tail.

Hahahahaha - tail weight? Surely you jest!!!!
I call this LT Bertha Big Butt - tail dragger with sheeted fin/rudd & stab/elev AND shaped support where the fin mounts to the stab. It also has provisions for rear pontoon mounts. A little OS 46 FX up front.
I installed 2 4.8v 1500 mAh batteries and added a bunch of 40 cal bullets up front. Total? 12 oz. maybe? Even with that straight-n-level was achieved at 1/3 throttle (or less) and floats at idle. Trim the elevator down somewhat and it will achieve straight-n-level at full throttle. Excellent elevator and rudder control but aileron response sucks. I'll address that soon.
Not proud of the weight but it's on its 3rd rebuild. The original build was strictly SIG design. Then tail dragger with bolt down wing with bayonet front mount. If memory serves me the balsa provided by SIG was more like stone wood - dense, hard and heavy. I used LHS light stuff that then got a dose of hanger rash that broke the fin / rudd and stab / elevator. Thus the rebuild of them using the sheeted approach.
If I ever build one from scratch again - who knows ...

Your a sick puppy SeamusG. I like that!
I got back to my build today after work and as usual, I bounce around alot. I dunno if it's the ADD thing compounded with adult beverage or not, and I gave up trying to figger that out years ago. I don't care, I just live for the day because you never know when your number is up. We lost a co-worker last Friday and a friend of many years that I have known and worked with since 1981. I try to take life in stride and every morning when my feet hit the floor, I give thanks for another day.
Back on topic, I'm not good at CA hinges. [:@]
I hate em. [:'(] I forget what these are called, but that's what I'm using.

Thats what I dislike about unsheeted wings. Especially on my 8ft telemaster, that thing had such a bad TE warp its pathetic. If I built another unsheeted wing, I'm gonna modify it to at least get some LE and TE sheeting on.
Builds looking Good!

Since I suck at CA hinges and hate digging out with an X-Acto knife, and too cheap to buy that hinge machine thing, I use a small pilot drill as a starter then move up to an 1/8th" bit. Then I use a Dremmel cut off tool for slotting. I will be using epoxy to install the hinges.

I think it was my fault Jason. The sticks were bundled well up against each other to keep them straight. I opened the box months ago and left the sticks go wherever they wanna go. I think it got tweaked because of my mistake.

LOL yes ugly, but i gauranteed you'll NEVER see it when you cover the airplane.
I think its gonna hold up to some stress.

lol I just noticed you bought a tailwheel. I've been seeing alot of kadet LT40 taildragger conversions lately. IMO when you put a tailwheel on this airplane, it becomes a telemaster.

Got the wing ready for final sanding but while waiting for the filler to dry, I ran 5 tanks through the engine. This thing fired on the first compression cycle and I am thrilled to death with it.

two things Gary - now you're just showing off AND it just ain't worth dieing for
Keep up the great work.
Just wondering why none of my engines fire on first tick ... maybe it's the low humidity and high altitude ... or, just maybe it's me

While waiting on the wing's filler to dry, I couldn't wait to do some covering. So I broke out the irons, the horizontal stab and some Solartex. I love this stuff.

Ah - the beautiful Houston skyline ...
What kind of color options do ya have with Solartex? Or are you intending to paint it?

Good point on the window-less approach used in the LT. I like the Senior as everything is open - transparent / translucent coverings to show off. Em, how good at using a dremel to cut out the windows? You could leave a hefty "A-pillar" and maybe cut out some 1/16 or 1/32 ply surrounds to reinforce the sides. Or extend the side fuse doubler to extend around where the windows would be. If you really want windows ... [8D]
I'm building a Somethin' Extra and NOT using any aliphatic resin to avoid the dark yellow / orange glue joints. Using thick CA instead. That'll open up covering options.

Ehh, it's gonna be my "Go Too Plane" for every day stuff and will get beat up. I'll save the "Purty" for other builds. This one is utility over vanity.
