Default Phaeton 90 or equivalent?

Howdy-

I want to surprise my BF with an RC plane (kit) like he used to have. He had a "Phaeton 90 with the biggest motor I could put on it," and he built it himself. He used to do acrobatics with it, but has been out of planes for a while (ex-wife trashed them). I'm having a very hard time finding a kit in stock anywhere for the Phaeton 90. Is there an equivalent plane I could get for him? He said he used the Phaeton 90 because it was durable and could withstand the size engines he used, so if I can't find a kit for that plane, I need something similar. Please help! I need to stay under $150 if possible.

Thanks!

Jo

Try Balsa Usa. It list for $159.95 and of course S&H. I have seen their kits at Graves R/C ( online) but they are offered at list price as well. You could look at the auction places to try to find a better price, but you never know if they are complete. I think its great that you are getting your BF some R/C stuff. Good Luck!

This is the order page for it. Beware: you may not be seeing as much of him after it arrives!

WOW! I am SO glad I found this forum!! Thanks so much for the lead on Graves and the direct link to the Balsa USA page. When I did a search it said Balsa was sold out of the Phaeton 90, but it's avail. at the link you provided so I'll see who won't hurt me so badly on the shipping.

What is biggest motor? I do not know but I have a Quadra 72CC on mine and it is a blast to fly. I did move the firewall back a few inches and made a heavier duty landing gear as the motor weighs 7.5 pounds. The plane still flys great and is quite maneuverable even though I have ailerons on the lower wing only.

Dear Fellow RC Pilots;

This is a mighty big thank you to all that helped my gf suprise me on my birthday. She got me theBalsa USA Phaeton 90 kit which was the last plane Iflew as an exibition pilot. I was beyond suprised.

I got out of flying RC a few years back due to jobs and moving around alot and have missed it ever since. I have been a instructor, flown all over the midwest doing exibitions at air shows and was even honored to fly at the Byrons Originals fly-in when it was still in Ida Grove, IA.

I can't wait to start building my new plane, doing the mods I did to my old one and getting back behind the stick. If my wife only knew the can of worms she opened for me and my passion for the hobby she may have reconsidered (probably not). She still amazes me and I love her so much (sorry a bit mushy).

I will be sure to post pics as I go along in the build.

Thanks Again
Your reborn pilot friend Ted Newell

Hooray, Ted! I've returned from a mostly layoff from modeling of 6 years and can relate. I'm enjoying a new Astro Hog. The guys at this field are so friendly, such a pleasure to see. I have trouble getting up to the speed limit going home, so relaxed. Your new plane even has enough wings! Maybe this sweetheart of yours would enjoy something like an electric Cub of her own...

Thanks, I have been out for about 15 years and a bit nervous about getting back behind the stick, but I am sure is kinda like riding a bike.

I can't wait to get started building and flying, as before I am all ready planning my next plane.

I would like to get the wife flying but I am going to bogart this hobbie for a bit; you see we have another passion we both enjoy and that
is wepons and Jo wants a Barrett 50 Cal. Sniper rifle, and as we all know "what mama wants, mama gets". so that is what she gets next.

Happy flying
Ted
