Today I got part of the right wing completed. Instead of doing the trailing edge and leading edge at the same time I decided to do just the te and let it dry. I used a whole piece of angle instead of 2" seperate pieces (as shown in the first post) and made sure my spar and te were dead on the plan. I refuse to make the same mistake twice. I think later on tonight I'll glue the le on. Nothing else to do since we got over 10" of snow today.

I also won this on the bay for $60. These engines work great if you take the limiters off , the baffle out of the pipe , and take the flywheel off the prop driver. They really do last forever. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180744134885...84.m1497.l2649 I know I said I never would buy a used engine online ever again , but I emailed the guy and he assured me it was only run 5 minutes to make sure it ran correctly. He then takes them out of the planes and puts in brushless conversions. He had three of these for auction with the tanks of different sizes so I tend to believe him.

I have bought a Saito 91, 100, YS 110, OS 91 FX, OS 46 FX, OS 46 AX, and something else on eBay. No problems with any of them. Some needed some TLC (aka maintenance) but I'd be surprised if it takes more than 15 min. to tear any one of these down (except the YS) for inspection. Another 15-30 min assem. including replacing the parts as necessary. Definitely not rocket science. If I could only fly. Emmmmm
Oh, just a thought ...
One wing building area that Isometimes "forget" about is making sure that the ribs are secured so that their tips & tails are aligned with the plans - not just at the spars. Mostly, not an issue if they aren't dead on. I use scrap balsa cut into 1x1 or 2x2 blocks and pin them to the table with a couple of big "T"pins. Isandwich the ribs (or their stand offs) between two blocks pinned to the table. They work as a couple of additional fingers while I apply thin CAor use Titebond and holding things straight when weight is added.
Keep up the great work!

Comment about Evos - have a 52 NX. 30 flights - 23 dead sticks. Carb replaced under warranty. 10 good flights followed by 10 dead sticks. Back in box under the work bench. A lot of power & rpm when running, however ...
My middle name has been "dead stick" at the field.

Yeah, that is what mine does. It seems like it will run rich one flight and be lean the next time you start it. I'll have it running well on the ground, but it will die in flight when trying to transition off idle in the air.
Cleaned carb a couple times, and have tried different glow plugs. It just never runs the same one start to the next, and won't transition in the air w/o dying.
Mine's also about to find a place in the junk bin.

Well I had this exact engine in my showtime 50 and it ran for 3 yrs almost daily (I lived less than a mile from the field) and it ran flawless. I did however put fuel tubing over the hsn because it would vibrate in and out. The metal retainer wasn't enough to keep it still under vibration. Did that from the day I got it and never had a problem. I actually sold it and it still runs to this day.

Well I have my wings , ailerons, horizontal stab and elevator, and here is a pic of my vertical stab and rudder. I used the scraps from the cuttouts to add 3/4 of an inch to the te and 3/4 of an inch to the top for a counter. Please let me know what you think.

Wow I like the rudder mod! Looks really clean, expect some massive amount of maneuverability
I wouldn't be surprised if you could pull off some knife edge loops

As for dead sticks, nothing can be as bad as the MDS engine I bought new for $50 bucks (it was sitting in a drawer and I didnt know better). On the maiden of my first plane, dead stick. I wasnt flying but it was scary for me and the pilot. After endless testing of nitro percentage and extra castor in the fuels, I gave in and now have a used Fox engine from a flying friend and it doesn't seem to be much better. I really dont think I can land that plane with the engine running. I am just going to break down and get a new OS 75AX to put on it.
I have wanted to build one of these SSEs but just havent found time. Is it an easy build? What size engine range can be used. Wing span?

Finally got a good day in of workin on the se. Covering isn't near as difficult as I thought it would be. However I redid the dot on the wing 3 times. I kept getting air bubbles[:@]. I think I had the iron too hot. And I thought a roll of orange and a roll of purple would be enough. I couldn't have been more wrong. Now I have to wait till after the holidays to afford more. Oh and the cowl area in the pic is purple also, don't know why it looks blue , must be the poor lighting.

Very colorful! You'll see that plane with no problem
I'm starting covering once my friend gets back to me about it, (he's helping me out with it) otherwise I'm pretty much finishing up the build. Some filling and sanding and I'll be all ready. Oh and your tail section is a little crooked

Wow you're waaaay ahead of me, man. I haven't even started covering yet! Looks like it'll be up in the air in no time. You'd better get a video of the maiden
