So many of the folks are not on Facebook. Also Facebook as its limits.

I was just thinking of it as a temporary effort to keep the name going.

Morning everyone new cub owner here
So i got a Seagull L4 Grasshopper arf this morning
Seems like its built well but i ABSOLUTELY hate the cowl and at the very least will repaint it but what i really want to do is change it for a Super cub cowl. I know it will not be close to scale but i don't care and i doubt anyone around here will even know the difference. Reason i want to change it is i have a RCGF 21cc twin i want to power it with but with the stock cowl i will need to whack the he** outta it to fit the exhaust and i would rather hide most of it.
So the question is does anyone know of a cowl that will fit close to the dimensions i have shown in the pics?
Thanks for any suggestions guys.

Not mine got from the net.

About 5.7 wide

About 6.5 tall

About 6.25 deep

Yeah. Was hoping someone would have a suggestion.
I would think just about any cub measuring close to 90in ws would work but i don't wanna start ordering cowls thinking they will work either.

I had a thought, I know that's dangerous, why don't you email your dimensions to [email protected] and ask if he has anything close to fitting? He is pretty good about answering such requests and did have a number of Cub cowling available. The worse he can say is "no".

I have bought from him on a number of occasions and have been satisfied with everything I bought. You still have to sand it and fill in any pinholes but that is par for the course with most fiberglass parts. My last purchase was the cowling and two piece canopy for the Walter Muscian Navion. I also have his Top Flite 182 cowling and tailcone.

Default Engine

I'm far enough into my build of the Sig 1/4 scale cub that I need to decide on a power plant. I was looking at the Saito fg40 4s gasser. Can someone give me some insight in using this engine with this airframe?

It's the new, improved version of the FG-36. The FG-36 is based on the FA-180, so the FG-40 will have more than enough power to fly the Cub, and since you probably don't want to rip the wings off with WOT, the fuel use will be very small flying the gasser @ half throttle. You will get bored flying long before you need to refuel.

My 1/5th SIG Cub flies with an FA-100, 10' runway is all it needs and will go vertical like an F-15 on full burner, yet throttled down to just under half, it purrs along very scale like. The FG-40 should be pretty much the same performance wise.

I forgot to mention, I have a pair of the FG-36 for my Ziroli B-25. Too bad I didn't know Saito would improve it to the 40 or I would have waited.

I would think the DLE 35RA would be a good choice, with much less cost, even if you fly it with floats. Let me know what you think. I am also trying to decide which engine to use on a Sig 1/4 scale cub that my dad built about 25 years ago, and never finished (about 75% done), and he passed away in June, 2008. I plan on using floats at some point.

Could try SIG parts, maybe modify the fuse to make them fit, both are 1/5th scale so should be pretty close.

I have had both airplanes the SIG windows won't fit. They are a bit larger.
If your side frames is good you might try cutting wood plugs to match the windows. Then lay a piece of clear plastic over the openings and heat it with a blow drier or Top Flite heat
gun then press the plugs in place to give you a final shape. It is not that much different than making a cowl from a plug and a 2 liter bottle. If you could make a simple wood plug the right shape you could use the 2 liter bottle and the heat gun to make the windshield too.

Ah, so the Goldberg isn't scale then. Too bad, would have been an easy job.

They both have pluses and minuses. I chose to stay with the SIG Cub and traded the Goldberg with a NIB Super Tigre .40 for an unfinished TF Corsair .60 size. I think I got the better end of the deal. The guy that had the Corsair had been trying to sell it for a year and half with no takers. It isn't the best building effort I have seen. The guy I traded sold the Goldberg Cub in a week. The Corsair came with Robart gear with a large tank and accessories installed and 4 Futaba 3004 servos already in the wing. The Corsair can be reworked and be a great airplane I just have other projects ahead of it.

Hello Cub Brotherhood...

I just picked up another 1/4 scale cub at a swap meet after several years without my Sig Cub. I'm needing some help identifying the maker of this cub if possible so I could use your help. See the attached photos and let me know your thoughts.

I didn't post wing photos however I thought the wing attachment might be enough to ID it. It has 104" span.

Thanks a bunch
Jeff

I just picked up a 1/4 scale Sig Clipped Wing cub at a local swap meet. Still in the wrapper for a really good price. Have a Saito FA-182 TD on order for it. I have a couple of projects to finish so I may not start on this till next winter
