Default 4*40 Build/Mods (kit bash)

Curious what you recommed for a kit bashing 4*40 build. Want this thing to have unlimited vertical (SuperTigre 45) and fun to fly. Planning on clipping one wing bay and cowling the engine. I remeber reading some issues about the gears... was that the wimpy tail gear, or the mains? Any other suggestions? Already versed with this website: http://www.renderwurx.com/rc/sig4star/

Thanks for the suggestions!!

Default 4*60

Here are the mods i did/finishing on my four star 60...

1. cowl out of balsa (have instructions from magazine)
2. sheet leading edge of wings to first spar.
3. reinforce the landing gear plate with plywood
4. made custom removable fuel tank floor (many people here loved my technique, have pictures to show if needed)
5. increased fuel tank from 12oz to 14oz
6. sheet turtledeck
7. put axle with wheel collars on front gear instead of those cheap screws.
8. sheet sides of fuselage to give a rounded look on the fuse (looks like an extra 300 instead of the square box as stock)
9. cut canopy, to have a more aerodynamic look to it

here are some things people do also:

10. increase stab and rudder surfaces
11. clip one wing bay
12. change rear gear to a sullivan
13. change front gear to a more sturdy one
14. round wing tips

have fun building! this is a great kit o bash.

If you have pics handy for the fuel tank door, I would like to see them. Sounds like a worthwhile mod.

ahh.. the heck with lunch .. here it is.. it's an earlier post..

http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...ble+tank+floor

With this method, I can put in a big tank, and remove it easily by sliding the floor out.

I always like to put wire landing gear in the wings ..I make a lite ply doubler for the wing ribs..spar to the leading edge, then put in some landing gear blocks..I have had a few people tell me they thought the plane settles better than the stock gear when landing, also the landing gear width is a bit wider.....I think it makes the plane look nice..and it leaves the original gear area open for maybe a camera mount,or even bomb or parachute drop. Just bolt it on when you want to use it...
