Our club is interested in introducing the members who haven't built a kit before to the building experience. Does anyone know if there are 40 size stick type kits at a very resonable cost on the market today? Thanks.

Try here, near the bottom, on the left hand side. Jensen Stik, $77.00. Its a 40 to 60 size.

I'm not sure what "reasonable" for kits is anymore (have you seen kits on Ebay lately???). But you can't go wrong with a Sig Kavalier or Mid Star 40. Both are under $100 and are full kits with plans and hardware.
Early RC kits has a reproduction kit of the Falcon 56 and the Senior Falcon. They are more pricey but are nice laser cut kits with all the wood necessary and plans. No or minimal hardware though.

If you are talking about Ugly Stik type models here is a nice plane at what to me is a reasonable cost. Plus these come with high quality hardware and the last two kits I bought from these folks came with GP adjustable motor mounts. Plus some of the nicest wood around. These are Joe Bridi designs and his planes fly like a sultans magic carpet.
