Default DX 18

Today at the field I was treated to getting to fiddle with the DX 18 radio! Does it do a bunch more then a good 9ch? Well, not really but it's more in how it does things that mater's. What it does that is both the same and different it does so much easier and quicker though. The main things are still the same but to program this beast is great. Even I could program a multi engine with individual throttle curves and set up my servos so each and every one is drawing the same amount of juice. Well, I was showed how to do it but it would take a little time to get it all figured out.
Will I run right out and get one? No, but if someone gave me one I would be willing to trade in my trusty old Futaba with my hitec module, like in a hart beat.
It's way too much radio for me these days but if I was just starting out again in the hobby I would sure give it a lot of thought. It would have fit my giant scale and big stunt plane days a lot better then my 9-C and saved me money on match boxes.
Over kill for the sport pilot? Probably, but you would never need another radio in your future. At just under $800.00 I wouldn't have known anyone with one in my old Calif. clubs but here in Vegas I already know a few guys with them. On that note, I know a few guys that will be tossing dice and turning cards tonight too!! I'm not one of them!!

You wouldn't know any of these guys had a nickle in there pockets. One of the main reasons I fly out there in the dirt, the people are a lot of fun. I have only met one total butt head there in almost 7 years. If you need help or a part it is there to be offered. I did have hopes of one of the new radio owners to offer a try out, flying his new 42% YAK but that didn't happen. Nice plane to go with a nice radio!

Well, if I ever get the gumption to build a scale B-17, the DX18 sure sounds like the right radio to fly it with. The thing I knew it could do was gear door sequencing, didn't know it could also sync throttles.

I get confused with the new radios very often but this one looks like something even I could get to love and understand. It does a bunch but the ease of programming is something special. I am no fan of a lot of the JR equipment but this one and the 9303 I really like. For the price of the 18 it's even more impressive. It's just so far beyond anything I would need again though. Very impressive!!

Does the DX 18 have a detent/ratchet type feel to the throttle stick?
