Sig Citabria, anyone done one recently?
I am giving some thought into the Citabria, since it looks like the OS 52 will be a fine engine for it. Considering going the Koverall route for it as well. SO far after doing their Kadet LT40 and now the 4*120, and seeing as both kits are pretty good, the Citabria is looking really good too, so is it?
Any tips on building it, or caveats to look out for? Considering the red and white paint scheme, maybe throw some blue on it too since those are the colors of my Kadet, and soon the 4*.

Which one of the 3 are you using?
Go up to the top of the page where you have several tabs - one is "forums". Hover over the tab and a drop down menu will be displayed. About 2/3 of the way down is "search" - click it. In the upper left area of this page is a link to "old search" - click it. You now have access to a multi-value search with and / or logic.
So, search for SIG and Citabria, click the advanced search control below the search term box. Select "subject" rather than "subject or body" and away you go.
Easy.

Well I found a thread on another forum using the exact same engine I have planned, he started it in 2009 and has yet to finish it. I have a good idea how it builds, but more important, still haven't found out yet, how it flies.

It has been ten years sense I have flown the SIG model. I do have a pair of Decathlons. Sea Gull and Phoenix. They are what they are. I enjoy both of them as well as the Sig model and the Great Planes Version. They are pretty and look cool. The flying is another thing. They are at times a handful.

I have this plane with a Saito .56 in it. I love the look of the plane but frankly, this plane has kicked my butt. I've crashed it several times now. It's on my "to rebuild" list, but it will probably be the last rebuild for this plane. I simply have too many other things to do. Don't get me wrong, I love Sig kits. As others have said "It's a handful". I suspect a Cub would be a better candidate if you want to do a scale plane.

Hi!
As with any plane it's vital that you get some wash-out in the wing tips.
The Citabria is easy to fly and land if you just build it light and follow the above recomendation.

Well, now that I have heard several guys say this plane is a "handful" to fly, I'm reconsidering. I already have a plane that is a handful, and I stripped the gear out of it for something else, hence the spare OS 52. It may have something to do with the short coupled fuse, which this plane and the one I stripped are both of. The 1/5th Cub may be able to take the engine I have, so going to research that.
Thanks for the input, this is what I was looking for with this thread.

Helo,
I am just finishing mine Citabria,
Here is the link to my building treath on our local Serbian forum.
http://www.rcfly4um.org/index.php?topic=8646.165
It is with electro set-up, and two piece wing. Here are some pictures:
I am still waiting for controler and I hope to fly it very soon.

A friend of mine built one and it was a pleasure to fly! His was covered in film but I'd prefer fabric, myself. It was 'neutral' as far as a high winged airplane is concerned so if you banked it and released the controls it kinda stayed that way. My memory might be mushy but the rudder was very effective. I'd like to build one but have too many projects presently. I like this size of airplane, too! I hope to see you 'do' a build thread.

I will have to wait before I get any more kits, up to 9 planes right now, and what I have I only have a few I can complete. My P-51 needs glass and resin, so its my next purchase when I can afford it.

Santa left a Sig version under the tree, so I too am looking for any tips that may improve the construction. First problem I have is all of my four stroke engines are a little to big. Darn! I guess we'll have to get another one. Darn! Maybe a Saito 72?

The OS 52 Surpass will be a great choice.
I started flying mine with a Magnum .42GP, worst engine I ever bought new! Switched to the OS 48 Surpass and loved it, great combo.
I tried a Saito 65 and while the extra power was nice, it killed the "scale" aspect of the plane for me and will be going to an OS 52 Surpass this year after I recover it
Mine has the original bell crank in the wing with one servo in the center. has worked for the 20 years I have had it, but if I were building a new one, I'd go with duel aileron servos and be done with it. I will convert mine during the recovering.
Only change I did do to mine was to not use the quick links to attach the struts to the fuse. The hole in the aluminum plate they connect to started to egg out from use. I put ball link on the strut instead with the ball on the plate. made the strut more secure and never had any issues with it from then on.

The OS 52 Surpass is a good little engine, but hard to find. The Magnum 52 is just as good to use, and readily available, provided you can get a good one, heard its hit or miss, luckily both the Magnums I have are good strong engines.

I wish they would stop playing with the sizes!

Wow I got my OS 52 for $80 used, with no flights on it, just break in.
Which reminds me, I finally got a couple SIG mounts so I can reinstall it on my Kadet and the Magnum on my T-34. or the other way around. Nah, Ill just stick the magnum back on since it is already measured for it. easier to install the OS and new mount on the Kadet, no cowl to mess with.
