Anyone using a fuel dot on a piper cub ?
Im planning on using a the line fuel dot but not sure where to locate the fuel dot. (Not a lot of experiance with them but I like the three line system. )
I originaly planned on putting it where fule guage\ gas cap is but it didnt work out (needed top be far to far from the windshield and the fule line would likely bind up on the the motor mount)
Its a 1/5 scale cub.Where is a good spot for it?

I decided to go with my gut and just put it where it needs to go. Since I cant put it where the gas cap is (there is a stinger at top center there) I put it on the left side above the center-line of the tank (just behind the dummy engine).<div>

The full scale J3 has it on top of the engine cowl in front of the windshield. The fuel gauage is a float with a rod that sticks through the fuel cap. The pilot tells how much fuel is in the tank by how much of the rod he can see. ....sounds crude, but it works.
But maybe you already knew this.

The full size J3 does not use a "fuel dot". It has a fuel filling cap and a level indicator and is not refueled like a model.
In a model we would not wish a location of the fuel dot such that fuel could be spilled all over the fuselage front.
I think a model fuel dot should be located underneath the rear of the engine cowling.
Does that make sense ? [X(]

I did. I decided to follow my original plans for this model and put things first where they need to be and then adjust for aesthetics. That said I decided to put it on the left side of the cowl behind the dummy engine.<div></div><div>The location of the fuel tank dictated it needed be in front of the firewall. Since im using the three line system , the dot is best installed above the centerline of the fuel tank. Behind the dummy engine fulfills both requirements and still allows me to install a dummy scale gas cap in the correct location.</div><div></div><div>I don't have picture since I'm still painting the cowl ( what a disaster that has been) but I will post some when its done</div>

Taxus812,
Thank you for your response.
That looks like a good location and adding a dummy fuel cap on top is a good idea to keep the scale look.
I am sure you will enjoy your model.
