Not hung over, or at least I hope not as I am still at work and they frown on that sort of thing. Work for me is as a ships Captain in the Oil and Gas industry, so read long hours and no small amount of responsibility.
This is why I like playing around with model planes. Will be back home end of the month and can start uploading some photos

C'mon you could get one of the other fellows to take the helm and you could do some carrier take offs & landings, weren't the first tests done with a sopwith pup?
You probably don't want to get distracted and do a exxon valdeez though, did that captain ever work again?

About the closes thing I come to flying is through these forums but that is fun in itself allows me a bit of time to think about projects and ways of tackling various jobs. I have learnt an awful lot reading and researching then putting it into some sort of practice when I get home

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, I have a number of kits, not just the BUSA ones that I would love to start but they all have different difficult areas that need to be tackled, balancing that with running a business and a having a 11 month old and keeping a wife happy can make priorities hard.
Looking at different build threads I have decided to put off building the top flight cessna 182 and will probably do the BUSA n28 or N17 next.
The internet really is an amazing tool, you can gain so much insight into something you thought was so simple yet learn it may not be so.

Hey fellas, can I ask some of the other fathers at what age their children became interested in planes?
My son seems to be so aware of things around him, he has managed to manipulate child safe doors, so I'm wondering when he will start modelling

My Dad got me into this (as did my older brothers... ) I started when I was four. soloed at 6.
My Son (who is is twelve now) started at 8. soloed in roughly 6 months.

as a result I'm probably biased, but my opinion, the earlier the better. even though I started flying at 4, I was at the field with my Dad pretty much since infancy.

My daughter started going to the field with me at about 7, started flying around 9, and then found HORSES! It was nice while it lasted.

While I was stationed in Germany in '81-'85, I built my daughter (7 yrs old) a high wing trainer and taught her how to fly it. It was pink & white with smiley faces and her birth date for the numbers. She was interested for almost two years, she still went to the field but not as often. I kept that little plane even after I retired in '89, I crashed it later. The guys at the field would always give me a hard time when I brought it to the field to teach a new guy. I have a grandson now and I can't wait to get him on the sticks.

Faux radial to hide the electric motor, It spins free of the shaft so just the prop wash spins it

I actually knew the captain (in a professional capacity) that trained the Valdez' captain. He said that he was a very capable person. Things just go south for some folks with tragic consequences!

I couldn't quite remember what happened there, so I looked it up, the skipper was below decks sleeping and the third mate was at the helm.
That ship has a collision warning radar that was broken for over a year.
I bet that would have been fixed before a ship left the dock these days.

Thanks...got it done....here are my N28 and EIII....the N28 has many seasons on it now and is a rock solid flyer.....the EIII hasn't been around as long but great on those days where there's a nasty cross wind and the biplanes aren't so much fun to fly.....Will I be getting a number soon?

I am yet to see a N28 around my neck of the woods, I'm glad you say it flies so well as I have one in the box waiting it's turn on the table.

I"ll take a number and join in .. I have a Phaeton 90 under construction and also a 1/4 scale Pup that needs finishing. I just finished a BTE Flying King to use as a tow plane for gliders so time to finish up the BUSA projects.

Nearing completion on my build on 1/4 scale triplane. Just got the streaked effect painted. The tripe was covered in natural Solartex. Then a base coat was a computer match of Behr paint in the Solartex "Antique" color. Tests I had done with a green sample of Behr paint for the streaking yielded less than stellar results. The paint just tended to go flat and not retain the strong striations. I did have Floquil model railroad paints on hand. These are enamel based paints. Using a mixture of paint with thinner I created a wash that created the effect shown in the photos. For those interested, the paint color used is "Reading Green". The blue was another Behr paint applied as a wash allowing the beige color to slightly come through. This is my first aircraft where I did the stitching effect. Shows up nice with the paint. BTW - the triplane is being finished as Rudolf Klimke's aircraft.

Granpooba, I stumbled across this page when asking the same question. I used Crochet thread from Walmart and picked up the carpet tape at Lowes. Only real tip I can give is it works best when you set up the piece only as long as you need to span your particular area. If you have a wing chord that's 14", make the piece 15". Too long and it becomes very unwieldy and the cross cutting the strips is a pain. There's a trick to picking a strip up and sticking the tape down so it doesn't twist on you and it will twist. But it works quite well and you're able to move along quite rapidly once you got the process down.
