You're doing a great job in handling this thread, and the brotherhood's roster. I'm sure that I am not alone in appreciating the effort that you put in to this thread.

Thanks !

Thanks for adding me to the group. The N17 is getting a little shop worn but she still flies great.

It flies with a converted Homelite weed whacker engine. I trimmed the flywheel and used some aftermarket parts for the rest. Sadly once the cheap Chinese engines hit the market, most of the people selling conversion parts closed up shop.

Thanks, The magneto need a pretty brisk turn over to fire the first spark. I have a standard starter but if the battery isn't at 100% it has a hard time making it past the compression on the first revolution. The drill doesn't spin as fast as a Sullivan starter but it has a lot more torque. With the drill the Homie busts right off. The Homelite hauls the N17 around just fine. I usually fly around at around 2/3 power. I never got around to changing the stabilizer incidence so like a lot of BUSA's WWI stuff it wants to climb at full throttle. It is a little over propped with an 18x10 but early on I trimmed the prop adapter when experimenting with different props and I can't snug up an 18x6 without a stack of washers. It flies nice as is and I don't push the motor very hard so it hasn't been worth the effort to make or track down a new prop adapter.

Jim are you building a Balsa USA airplane or are you flying one? The first rule of the Balsa USA Brotherhood is that you are building a BUSA kit or flying a Balsa airplane. This was the rule before I took over managing the thread. You will be welcomed to join by posting a picture of your BUSA airplane. We would love to have you join our ranks and be #155.

Jim, if you tell you have a BUSA airplane, I'll make you a brother. It is little difficult to post picture when you first start.

I know you have to reduce the size of the picture. I use Razor, a free program, to reduce the size, it is a very easy program to use. You can down load it for free. Then go to FAQ on this site on how to post picture. This a picture I have in an album that Razor reduced all the pictures in the album to a smaller file. I still have the original size pictures,. It is harder to explain than to do it. If you can't find it am sure someone can explain it better than me

Take Care

Jim, that is a BUSA airplane. I would to welcome you to the Balsa USA Brotherhood. Looks like you got picture posting figured out. If you need any help or advice, just ask. That is what it all about, we help each other.

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post their BUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

The other day at the flying field a guy had his newly completed ¼ scale BUSA D7. The plane was really cool looking in blue and yellow color’s. For power he used a DLE 35RA. This was the first time I've seen one of these in person. The plane flew great and look amazing in the air.

My son who is 32 years old and has been flying for a long time said we should build one of those. So it’s finally going to happen after reading about builds and watching videos and look at the BUSA website for many years. A father and son DVII build will be starting soon with hopes to have it flying next summer. It will be a standard build nothing fancy and will use a g38.

Steve, the BUSA Fokker D-VII is the best RC airplane I have had in 43 years if building & flying. I have 2. I am sure there some construction builds on RCU, but most of the detailed construction builds are on the RC Scale Builder RCSB.com. In the forums Balsa section of Kits there are D-VII builds or questions on almost every page. I have 5 BUSA construction builds on RCSB, Fokker D-VII (2), Sopwith Pup, Spade XIII, and in progress Fokker Dr-1. Also 1/3 Scale Sopwith Pup in progress. RCSB is a great site, but it does cost $20.00 a year. If you enjoy building and flying RC airplanes, It is well worth every penny. There are members from around the world who have builds on its pages.

After say all this, here are some pictures of my D-VII builds, that are on pages 7 & 10. Also, I have 2 kits waiting 1/4 scale D-VII & Sopwith Pup.

Rich,
I joined RCSB in 2006 and have been following along with your builds and other BUSA kits. I'm looking forward to starting this build.

Steve that great, you will enjoy the build and flying the Fokker D-VII. The Zenoah 38 is a perfect engine for it. You should consider attending the Dawn Patrol at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio in September 22- 23. It is a fantastic 2 days, if you take more days off a tour in the Museum would excellent and it is free.

Rich,
I've been to the Museum in Dayton its very nice. I'll have to put the Dawn Patrol event on my list of ones to attend. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in NY is also on my to see list. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you as I proceed with the D7 build.

Here is a pic of my 1/4 PUP that was getting the cg checked. Came out pretty well without any added weight. Older G23 up front helped I am sure. I am listed as #68 on the brotherhood so this can help document that. Done to the color or the Black Arrow Squadron by a pic I found on the web. Time to get going on my SE5 Thanks Sam

Thanks Rich... since that pic was taken I have added more detail and graphics. Haven't done the maiden flight yet as our flying site has not been available but hope to get it up in the air in a month or so.
