Default Retracts on an Old Kit...??

I have an OLD piper tomahawk kit (.60 size) that I finally decided to build. To make it interesting I decided to add a set of mechanical retracts that a friend gave me. The kit IS NOT designed for retracts, but I can make the modification needed for the retracts. The question I have is how will adding retracts to a plane not originally designed for retracts change the flying characteristics? This will be my first experience with retracts so any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Assuming their is not an excessive weight gain associated with the retract installation then I think the performance would, if anything, be better. It may not make much difference at all really but I certainly don't see any reason why it would negatively effect the performance in any way. My .02 cents of course.

Chad, thanks for the response!

The weight gain will be minimal. This build should be fun!!

R-Duhb, I don't know if it matters to you, or even if I am right but I don't remember a full scale Piper Tomahawk as having retracts.

Larry, yeah I know. Decided to do it anyway. Thought it might be pretty cool.

OK, no harm, no foul with a custom upgrade! SO......will this upgrade make your Tomahawk a "Super Tomahawk" or a "Deluxe Tomahawk" ?

Should be a great project. I've been using the Spring Air retracts for years with absolute success. See if they have anything that fits your design. Dan.

A flight instructor I had called it the Trauma-hawk......... apparently, the wings could blank the t-tail during high angle of attack manuevers and create a very sporty situation.

Wow...In that situation I'm sure that name is justified.

Well anyway, my retract addition has been scratched. I actually don't have enough room for the main gear to retract all the way into the wing. I need the airfoil to be about a 1/4" thicker. I was really looking forward to it....but oh well.
