I'm still on this side of the grass but I walked away from RCU some time ago due to the new format and over a decade of the same questions over and over. Just silly stuff that keeps getting asked without anyone ever looking it up.
My PM is still working and once in a while an old thread that I haven't unsubscribed from pops up on my puter.
Rick Stubbs let me know you were asking. Several of us that have been around for a while still email each other.
I'm still on the Up-Roar thread and CG Extra 300 thread, two of my favorite topics.
If you need help with something just PM me and I will send you my address. My email is still active too, I think.
I'm trying to sell this house in Vegas and moving back to my place in the mountains in Calif. I already took my planes and shop to Calif so I'm not doing any flying or building at this time. Once I get moved and settled back in I will start again. Well, that and hunting and fishing again too!! I do miss duck hunting and my wife does miss fishing!! Lots of work to be done at the old homestead too. Renters and realestate really killed the place!!!

Good top hear from you, Gene. I don't need anything--I just hadn't heard from you or read anything from you for awhile. I was hoping you were just taking a time out from the site. I very seldom get on RCU any more either. Seems like there is more flaming on here than there used to be and a couple guys have come on that offend me with their "expertise" on just about every subject brought up. A couple physical ailments have made it not as enjoyable to go to the field as it used to be, but I still go when I can and I am still building everything I can get my hands on. Don't really know what I am going to do with all the models I am accumulating. Can't really sell them without losing a bunch of money on them and then opening myself up to somebody *****ing about something or other on them. Have you ever actually finished a plane? I find that no matter how much I do on one, I can always find something to do to "improve" it, so I just quit at some point and start on another. Don't lose touch. I always looked forward to hearing from you.

I started lurking on RC in about 02 and signed on in 03 and we still had a lot of great builds going on. There were still a few kits being cut and plans building. Just nothing going on these days and nothing new.
How many times can you post about what prop size with this XYZ engine or what are the factory screrw setting on the carb for XYZ?? People would get pissed if I kept saying to use the search engine you dumbass!!
I don't know if I will still have clients when I get back to Calif. for building or not. I built kits but wouldn't build from plans for others. I was even assembling ARFs then doing the maiden flights to trim to make a few extra bucks. I'll see what is going on then make up my mmind what I will do.
Just flying bores me and I prefer building.
I'm still cutting my own kits but there is no market in that.
I will be using the handi cap duck blinds next season. They aren't very good but I'm able to get to them most of the time.
I just have so much work to do around the house so I hope to sell this one soon and get back to the mountains.Be nice to get there before open burn season is over!!

Graybeard,
Glad to hear you're coming back to CA.
As I recall, you were outside of Yosemite?
I'm in the process of leaving Lake County and heading back to Visalia.
Maybe we'll run into each other some day.

Good Luck,

It is a little town outside the west gate of Yosemite, about 40 minutes outside of the park, Mariposa. I was there a few months ago and the town has gotten a bit bigger, well a bit different is more like it. Not far from Visalia.
When I was still able to walk I hunted quail 3 days a week in Mariposa then hunted waterfowl in the central valley three days a week.
I traveled around central Ca. shooting trap and skeet then all over the state flying at IMAA events.
No more IMAA and I can't walk far enough to hunt quail so I will just hunt waterfowl and fish the high mountain lakes.
I got very spoiled here in Vegas flying RC. Dry lake beds every place you look and we have a couple of the really nice fields that are operated by parks and recreation. I'm just down the road from where the TOC was started, Bennett field and I'm just a few blocks away from Bennetts first home. The home is gone but his runway is still in good condition.
In Ca. I have to drive down to the valley and fly at the Merced club. There are a few others though. Fresno is a really nice one but these are all a long drive.
Who knows, maybe we can get the old Mariposa club going again?

Hey Gene... I'm in the Fresno club. Thanks for the nice words there about our club. It is a nice group, and I've been a member for over 20yrs. I do know its a bit of a drive though... probably an hour coming down give or take depending on traffic, etc...and a tad more going back up.. We have a few members that live in Coarsegold/Oakhurst area too that come down regularly, but they're quite a bit closer to us then Mariposa.
.
In any case, I can tell you right now those mountains are beautiful man! The rains have been coming at least every week... sometimes a few or more times a week. I took a ride up and around Oakhurst Friday on my motorcycle, and I haven't seen it so nice in many years. I can't wait to get out to our field and fly too. I was going out today, but .... well.... the weather is getting blown out from the approaching storm as I'm writing this.

There will be plenty of green grass and such this year, and it will be an excellent Spring for us here in the valley it seems. I wish you well on your journey... You might stand a really good chance of getting a club going up there too... you never know.
