New Balsa USA Smoothie XL Build
#251
I reinforced the floor just behind the wing and made a tray here for the batteries. Also mounted the gas and smoke tanks directly over the CG. I have a pair of twin 6oz oval tanks for smoke oil. Hope they are large enough. Could go to 8oz.

Maiden flight about a month ago, now. The plane flies GREAT. I have a DA35 up front. Extremely honest flier. I chose to have flaps and mixed about 5/16” down elevator with them being full down - worked out well. I doesn’t balloon when flaps are lowered. Took me about 6-7 months to build, but well worth it!

Good day everyone.
I just started this kit. It is my FIRST one. Any help welcome !
What are the caveat ? Tricks ? I will read all the posts about the Smoothie XL.
The engine will be the Evolution 35 recommended.
Some say 8 servos, some 9. Any explanation ?

Dual: Elevators, Flaps and Aileron also if you have Smoke, that’s another "servo" channel. Remote motor cutoff eats an added channel, etc. I fly the EVO and it has plenty of power, mine just takes a bit of a taxi to get off the ground. She's a little heavier then normal with dual smoke tanks its pump, twin batteries for the RC, engine and smoke pump battery. pump, I just added .5 degree of main wing incidence so this should be improved.
