Default Sig Somethin Extra Kit

Hi folks, I'm building my first kit and it's a SSE. I think I've done a pretty good job so far with one exception. The wing panel root ribs and the fuselage sides are not perfectly flush on the underside of the plane, perhaps a 1 mm gap or so. The aluminum bar fits perfectly and the dowel towards the back of the wings slides in nicely, too. The wings look perfect from the top. I'm an amateur flyer and builder so I don't need perfection. Just wondering if you guys think that I can just continue building or if I need to try to correct this small imperfection. I've flown some pretty imperfect planes in the past and they seem to have been fine. Thanks!

Chances are it will be fine. It sounds like you got the incidence OK (set by the wing tube and the rear locating pin). From what you describe, my only concern would be if the wings do not seat well against the fuselage (if the root rib is too far out of square it may prevent the wing from seating and result in some play). When assembled do the wings feel secure against the fuselage or is there any play or wiggle? In this case, I would add a shim of lite ply or hard balsa. If you go that route, add an over-sized piece and sand down to until just fills the gap.

Sounds like the way I would approach the problem and the shim will eliminate the imperfection. Problem solved..

If it's not covered I would just add some balsa and sand it to fit with a T bar. There is no need for a hardwood in that area. The whole job would be less than an hour. If you decide to leave it I doubt it does anything to how the plane flys. I'm just picky and would fix it.
