Hi friends, does anyone know if-Royal Aircraft-still offers a kit? I bought one about 20 yrs ago. If anyone ever bought one,you know that there is alot of work involved. Thankyou? Lucky.

If you don't mind my asking, which kit? As Warhwk noted they are no longer imported but the plans for many of them are still floating around the internet and short kits are available through some of the kit cutters.

It was the F4 Phantom,It was very a very good scale model, but not recommended for new builders. There was only a booklet (now pictures) telling you what should go where. I still have it hanging in my workshop. It had maple motor mounts that had to be incorporated into the front end,They sucked, It did fly beautifull though. I will send pic asap.

Always something new to learn, I didn't know that Royal made a Phantom. I guess that molded plastic motor mounts must have started coming out in the 70's and aluminum mounts have been around a long time. I just finished up an old Aristocraft kit from the mid 70's that had hardwood engine mounts.

Great Planes also had a .60 size Phantom kit. While neither it, nor the Royal (also known as Marutaka) are still in production you might be able to find one or the other second hand.

Yes, Royal did build a Phantom, I bought it in 1988. I will send pics as soon as I can. The motor mount was solid hardwood,(maple). It was about 5 inches long. I had to attach it trhough the fire wall and into the fuel tank area. I think the person that drew this up was on LSD at the time. But it looks great. and flys great! After I nose dived it into the ground I just put a Hayes Mt. in it. I also had to use a --Split -Elevator in it due to the fact that both elevators are slanted downward.

Dont worry, I wont build another one, Lots,and Lots of work envolved, When I opened the box up there was about 100lbs. of wood,Maple moter mounts,and 1 print,no instructions,or pics. Not recommened for new builders. I still have it hanging in my work shop. Its covered in Insigna blue monokote,finished off with club yellow. I can say that it was built to scale, It flew fantastic! Rolls and knife edges great. It calls for a .60,but I put a YS.60 with a tuned pipe. Im going to try and fly it this year.

Thankyou much! This jet was a pain in the ass to build,but very challenging.It took me almost 3-4 months to build. all there was ,was a Print to work with,no pictures,no directions. Not for one with no building experiance. Maple motor mounts.and I had to use split elevator setup.Nothing was shaped,I had to shape everything to its final look. It flys beautifull.Probbably 90mph. Wind does't affect it at all. However,I wont build another one.

Wow, that's still a spectacular job, oh my I'm kinda into a Pica Spitfire 88" - about have the wing assembly finished, well ready for flaps & ailerons, these directions are hand written with ummm, I guess sketching of what he's trying to explain? Ya.. so I'm having a devil of a time myself...lol

Hey, I'm in Homer City, IUP college is in the town next to me, Pittsburgh is about 75 mile from me.
