Hello everyone, im Jared and I'm new here. I have been intrested in flying my whole life. I plan to become a pilot in the future. This hobby has always intrigued me. I have come here via advice for what I am planning to accomplish. I am a beginner and I know I have to get my feet wet but that is being handled from a different end. I'm calling all all experienced builders and pilots for this.
I am planning on building 3 crafts. An F4 phantom jet powered rc on a large scale( 6feet in length ruffly), an F18 superhornet same size as the phantom, amd lastly but definitely not least....a space shuttle...yes a space plane with boosters, external, and orbiter. The shuttle will be the greatest project as it will be an actual space rc meaning yes I plan to launch into space. The shuttle will orbit the earth once and return home. While the shuttle rc is in space it will open bay doors, deploy miniature astronaunt figures that will be tethered to simulate a space walk, do an actual reentry, and land as the actuall shuttle did. Yes this is a crazy idea and WILL NOT be a cheap build. I am aware that this project will take some years to complete, test, and fly. My purpose is to give salute and pay homage to NASA, the shuttle program, and space education to other space enthusiasts. I feel this will bring more people into flying and space especially for younger generations who dream big and love aviation and space. I was inspired by a build that was in my opinion the BEST rc shuttle launch to date, everything was as real as it could get from launch, roll program, srb separation, external tank sep, and a glide in for landing. I was inspired to push the envelope further by sending the first rc to space.
the shuttle orbiter will be 15 feet long and 23 feet with srbs and et tank. All specifications will be discussed at a later date but for now a rough outlook on where im going. So, now yall have a brief overview of why I'm here help me make this amazing project come to life. I dnt know where to get materials, diagrams, parts, etc so thats I guess where we can start then again like stated im here for help.

First bit of advice is get a trainer, like an EFlite Apprentice, and get to a local club and learn to fly a simple fixed wing model. That will help you immensely to have some small grasp on the flying aspects. Then start building... anything that you can get your hands on that's within your skill set, and work on those skill sets, and learn more skills. Go to school, and/or take an aircraft engineering class, and learn flight dynamics, and aircraft design. The more you do the above things, the closer you'll be to your goal. The above things are all prerequisite to where you say you want to be.
Obviously you can't start with building an F-4 or F-18 and expect to be fully successful. It doesn't work like that, but start with something that might be within your grasp and that you stand a good chance of success, then build on those skills for the next project, and the next, etc.. This way you'll build a virtual library in your mind of skills, and gain experience with each one.
You have some interesting goals, and set your sites pretty high, so you must know it takes years to get to the higher levels of anything... but a person has to start somewhere.. So get with it!!
Good luck with your RC future.
