I COVERED MY NEW EXTRA 300 PLANE WITH ORANGE OROCOVER AND I GLUED ON THE PILOT. i CANNOT FIND A MATCHING CANOPY/TRIM TAPE. HAS ANYONE EVER USED IRON ON COVERING TO FINISH A CANOPY INSTALLATION? i THINK OROCOVER WOULD BE A BETTER CHOICE FOR DOING THIS DUE TO ITS LOW TEMP ACTIVATION, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOME FELLOW FLYERS!

I've been doing it for years. I first glue the canopy in place with canopy glue and then trim the edges with a strip of covering material about 3/8" wide. A trim iron is best for this but a regular sealing iron can be used too. I think this makes a very clean looking installation.

I prefer a quality trim tape because it is easier but have painted the canopy frames many times. Use a high quality masking tape and know when to pull the tape for the particular paint you are using. Some paints like to have the masking pulled before the paint is dry. Some work best when the paint is dry. Done correctly, the lines will be crisp and the results will reward the builder.
