Sarge,
I built a Royal (same as Marutaka) several years ago for a friend. It is a fairly complicated kit with lots of carving and sanding. It didn't make it through the first flight as the pilot wasn't experienced enough fly it. Here's a pic of it before covering. Note all of the filler I had to use on it.

Hobby Shack made a .15-size foamy. I have one after I sold off a .40-size Pilot Staggerwing which I didn't want to try as I was afraid of crashing such a beautiful and rare kit. Aristo-Craft also made one (.40-size). All are OOP, but I see them now and then on eBay.

Check out the Sid Morgan 1/6th scale plans... 64" w/span And I think I'm gonna have kit cutters make a kit for me from those plans
Just another option you can think about... As for the Cowl I did a net search and found fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com they make a cowl for the 1/6 RCM staggerwing, for $36... Curious, has anyone gotten this cowl? since both plans are 1/6 scale, and both are the "G" version of the staggerwing, I'm hoping I might get lucky and it will fit. Anyone tried it?
Thanks..

I was looking into this plane a while ago and what I couldn't figure out was why it was so rare.
I could only find a 1/2a size plans from MA and a profile from RCM
this is such a great little airplane i can't figure out why any manufacturers don't kit it

I agree it is a great airplane with a great history. I talked to a guy who actually has flown one in the service during WW2 and he said it was one of the best flying planes he's flown. It would make a great scale project and I wish someone like Midwest would come out with a kit.
