Sorry for the slow response. I'm flying the 91FS/12-8 three blade ar about 9300. It peaks about 9600. For the way I fly the plane, it's enough power. I can get fairly large loops and decent vertical for humpty-bumps so long as I don't try to roll on the uplines. I can get a vertical 8 out of it but it isn't too pretty. That would probably be better with a Saito 100. I had this engine already. If I was buying one for it, I'd think about the Saito.
The Delta Vortex isn't real fast as deltas go. Large thick wing, gear in the wind, servos hanging out, lotsa drag. But it sure looks cool touching down with the nose up in the air and flying aerobatic maneuvers.

Larry,
Thanks for the numbers now I'll have something to compare. I will use either the 91 surpassII with pump or either an MVVS91 or OS 91Fx on a pipe. I also have an MVVS 61 with a pipe but I don't think that's enough for this plane.
Salmonbug,
Now that's what I'm talking about. But I had wanted to know if any particular gear was better suited for the DV. Mechanical would be easier than a pneumatic setup.
Mike,
Save the Saito and go with a nice 91 two stroke.
Take care, Pete

I will use the 605HD pneumatic because I have a set of main laying in the workshop, so I have only to buy the nose.
I am really short with money actualy
I am a bit concerned about the final weight if I use my OS 120.
I could go above 10 Lbs, that's a lot for a 605 HD
but if you use a pneumatic you save one servo (if you look at the mechanical already made in the DV it's difficult to route the nose retract wiring so a extra servo is use to retract the nose)

Time for my DV to arrive, because my curent project is in the very last phase of final assembly !!
another nice Bruce Tharpe design kited by SIG, I always have at least one wonder with me when I go to the field
isn't she sweet my last one ?
just need to install ailerons and the rudder sevo (it's a mod from original design) and go !

I LOVE my Delta Vortex!
The biggest modification I made was to move the engine back (as I recall) 1 1/2" or so to help with the CG situation; I still had to add tail weight. I almost had a problem when I installed the OS 91FX because the standard muffler came too close to the wing. I (barely) solved the problem with an OS exhaust extension. The OS exhaust extension opening didn't match (was smaller) the OS91FX exhaust/muffler openings but a little grinding to match them up took care of that.
I've found that the rudder speed brakes are very nice to have too. The landings are way too cool; nose high final approaches are neat. It is so easy to fly.
Next one I do, I'm considering putting an elevator between the rudder just for kicks to see how that does. I'll stick with a three blade prop because it just looks right on this thing. A rear exhaust 90 with a pipe looks right too, IMHO. And maybe floats.

Just made the 1st flights on my vortex delta arf. 6 flights & am impressed with this airplane. Landings are nice the way it sets up on final with a nose high attitude, & just control the decent rate with throttle. Using a 91 fx with a 14 8 & no groung clearance problems at all. Mine came out nose heavy, but didn't add any weight. Fly's good as is. Don't think the weight thing is a big deal as long as it's within reason. Because when you fly you dump in 14 oz of fuel anyway. On take off with full fuel if you have some altitude you can dead stick it in with out any problems. On the arf I didn't get the delux acessory kit, so bent up a new set of main gears wiyh the axels pointing outboard. Made a canopy out of a balsa block mostly to use as a handle while starting. Mounted the engine sideways & the thing stays very clean. The included spinner looks good with the cowl. My vortex is red white & blue. I put white trim on the keading edge & can see it a lot better on final. It will do a really nice knife edge but try them at altitude 1st. Don't scare yourself like I did. All in all am very impressed with the vortex.
