Well you know Stan... you did give me 3 pound landing gear for a 9 pound plane lol. Maybe more than that after all the repairs.... Including a mid-air and a power dive. You do remeber those right ?
I'm just waiting to get the carbon fiber in to continue... I'll post some more pics when I get that done.

Well, it's mostly done and it flies GREAT!! I did the maiden on it this morning and it's awesome. I take back most of those things about the guy that talked me into getting it lol. The kit was an absolute nightmare to build, but the plane looks nice and I love the way it flew. I still have to tinker here and there, adjust the CG some more, add the wheel pants and canopy, but other than that it's done.
Thanks to all you who dropped me ideas on how to improve it. I did the carbon fiber on the sides and feathered it with DAP. The DAP sanded nicely so you couldn't even tell they were there.
I'll get some pics up soon

Here are a couple pics... That's Stan and Mike in the backgound helping me get it going this morning. Stan is the one that helped me build and cover it. Actually he's the one that showed me how to build it (my first kit) and how to cover it (my first covering). Without his help I would have been lost on this kit lol. Not recommended for a first time builder... In pic one, thats my red Magic Extra in the background. In the other two pics, thats's Stans' white Funtana and in pic two, thats a "Burrito" custom design by a guy here in Memphis.

Rick,
Congratulations on your first build!!! You did a great job.
I'm also envious off your weather. It's 2 degrees here and about 4 feet of snow on the ground.
Hope this is the first of many, many kit builds for you. It's an enjoyable part of the hobby.

Thanks Tom. And yes, the weather here was great yesterday. Those were taken between 10am and 2pm. It was upper 50's with 2-3mph wind. It rained in the evening though. I used to live in upstate NY. I know all about the cold weather. It was when I moved up there for four years (military) that I sold my first trainer and got out of the hobby until now.
If every kit was as difficult to build as this one, I would probably stick to an ARF or hire a builder lol. Stan has built close to 30 kits and some scratch stuff and even he got frustrated with the plans and directions on this one at times. I bought a "Burrito" too and have the plans to build a Wild Thing for combat. Hopefully those two will go together a little easier lol. I've heard nothing but good things about this plane and I just got a little taste of why. It just took a few click of left and a touch of down to get it tracking straight as an arrow. Be gentle on the sticks and it almost like a high wing trainer, but when you put it to em, it comes to life and does some really pretty stuff. I Love It! It runs awesome with an Irvine .72 spinning a 15x4W prop with a Pitts Slimline. When you give it full throttle and point it straight up, you can hold it DOWN with two fingers.
Another for anyone that has this plane or has tried moving the gear of theirs. After looking at the landing gear, has anyone tried to turn them around so thay actually sweep forward instead of back? It did seem to want to bounce a little on landing and the tail seemed to want to come up too?
Something that seemed to work really well for anyone else like me, that has to remove the wing all the time is a little hatch for the wing cover. We put one in the middle of the cover the hold it down. It works great and takes about 2 seconds to remove it. I have to take if off everytime I go fly. They are like $6 and worth it lol. Here's a couple more pics of the hatch and the servo setup. I had to move the throttle to be able to use some longer servo arms.

Rick, Go ahead and turn the landing gear around. I've done this on other models. It worked fin for me.
I like the quick release hatch. Now you are a builder and an innovator!!!

GOOD JOB RIK,
This plane has lots of little extra demands when building, for sure.
Love you weather, spent the last two days removing snow, not much chance of flying for a while.

I was 70 miles north of Syracuse, NY at Fort Drum for four years. I arrived there in the Ice Storm of 97-98. I have had all the snow, ice and salt pecks on my car that I will ever need lol. I'll stick to the slight flurry they call a blizzard here and be just fine not having to push around a snow blower just to get out of my driveway....
Hey Gizmo, anything you can think of that makes the Stinger a little more fun? What engine/prop do you run on yours?

Rik,
I have a Mag. 91 FS on mine, I run a 14x6 Master Airscrew which works so well I really haven't experimented beyond it. I have close to unlimited verticle and more than enough speed and power for most everything. I had a 61 2 stroke on it a first which flew it ok but no great shakes (HB).
I HAVE A SPECIAL ON SNOW RIGHT NOW, SHOW UP WITH A TRUCK AND YOU CAN HAVE ALL YOU WANT, NO CHARGE.
BTW, I run the controls as reccommended on low rates and fairly hot on high rates with Flaparons and about 50% expo.

Gizmo,
Just wondering how the flaperons work out on this plane? Also, what you consider flaperons... some people consider them as both ailerons moving up when the elevator moves down and vice versa... others consider them as flaps that drop, but still function as ailerons independently. I may have my terminology a little mixed up but I'm sure you get the idea. Which do you use and have you tried it with them dropping as flaps but still functioning as ailerons?

I did Gizmo... thanks. I replied to you there. Just had to wait til I got home from work... I work Sun-Weds 12:30 11:00pm with Thurs, Fri, Sat off. Hopfully it will warm up and our wind will calm down so I can fly it allot this weekend. We were really gentle with it the first flight. I'm looking forward to really getting a feel for it and putting through the paces
