Since I've had no luck finding a Staggerwing in either ARF, Kit or Plans, thought I would see if anyone here had any suggestions?

Hobby barn has a Marutaka kit, 56" ws, $169 (I hear its a builders kit). There are also plans at the RCM plans store, pl-620, 64" ws, $23. The RCM plane has foam core wings but you could easily make a build up wing since its constant cord. No arf that I know of. Then there is the Ziroli plans which are currently still in development. Dont know when it'll be done. Will be big.

Does an older Royal, about .80 size interest you?

Clancy Aviation produces a .20 size Stagger Bee. It's small 2-3 lbs and fun (according to all reports).
I don't know what you're looking for but have a look at the Bee Line you just may be impressed.

You probably want the Ziroli, but FYI Flying Models has a set of 52-1/2 in Bryce Petersen plans that have been around for a while for nine bucks plus four bucks postage. The Byron/Iron Bay kit will be around if you have the bucks.

Do a Staggerwing search on eBay...There's a Murataka kit there now. Hobby Shack made an ARF foamy ( I have one myself), Byron, Pilot, Ace and Aristo Craft made kits of various sizes from 1/2A to 1/4 scale that appear occasionally on eBay. Be ready to spend some money, though, as the Staggerwing is a very popular subject.

I've been drawing my own plans for the D variant @ 1/4 scale for over a year now. I'm at the stage of mocking up the fuselage (I'm having difficulty working out the interference for the gear and lower wing mount).

Yes, it's not straight, everything is just friction fit (no glue) on the horiz keel to get a general feel of arrangement for the gear.

Heavens, the Staggerwing has always been a devilishly complex airframe. A recent article in Sport Aviation about a full size restoration noted that the owner ran the battery down twice cycling the gear just getting the gear doors to fit!

It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread. If fact it got me thinking about a Staggerwing and then I ran across a Royal kit for it. The tail feathers and the upper wing are finished and the kit really is like buying a tree and building a plane
The wing profile called for washout on a very narrow and tapered shape so I couldn't use my wing jig. Now some 40 hours later I have a pair of aileron servos installed and the top wing covered in Century 21 fabric. - Looking at it motivates me to keep the rest going. The bottom wing is next and I plan to install a set of retracts left over from a Hangar-9 P-51. They fit perfectly inside the thin wing airfoil and the wheels can be housed into the cockpit floor hidden under the interior details. Modifying the strut to a 3/16" diameter wire and adding the rear brace that the Staggerwing employs solves any drawbacks the gear had on the P-51 application. A Robart retractable tail wheel with a micro servo for actuation should add to the model while keeping the weight down. Want to bring it in under 10 lbs...

Update on 2/9/2004
The plane is coming along; the retracts, radio and interior is in and now needs the engine, covering and cowl.
Just wanted to post a picture of the progress.

Sorry for not replying, somehow I missed your question earlier. I have a started by someone else kit. But it does have the plans and destructions with it. If you have built from plans before and are ready for a tremenous challenge I will see about getting a copy for you. Mind you like one of the other posts this thing is like getting a tree and then making it into a plane, there is a ton of little wood in this thing!
