Recon - Looks great. How did you finish the cowl? Fletch used some squadron putty on his, and I am going to pick some up when I get to my local hobby shop. Did you use Top Flight paint? How did it turn out? I notice that you used the wheel pants with your plane. Do you fly off of a paved runway? Are the pants good quality? I fly off grass and have had bad luck with wheel pants on my Super Sportster. They were always pointing up when I flew.

The Green Squadron Putty did great on the pants, although I am not happy with the eveness of the shapes. They did sand out nice, and I striped them in purple to match the fuse. I still have a problem spot on the cowl. The front right corner will not blend in nice enough for my taste. I think befoe I invest too much more time in paint and sanding, I am going to get a fiberglass cowl. I have found a few sources for them for the GP series.

http://www.stansfibertech.com offers a glass cowl, and a model that does not use the standoffs for a close fit. I think I am going to spend the 35 bucks for this as it can certainly detract fromthe planes overall appearance.

And finished the cowl tonight. Looks like a pretty good match on the paint. I think I'll shoot it with a coat or 2 of clear to gloss it up to match the MonoKote. I can't mount the cowl yet, because I need the engine to set the spacong correctly. Maybe in a week or so I'll put aside a bit to buy it. I am leaning towards an OS 46 FX. Maybe I should go a bit bigger though?

I think you will like the OS 46 FX on this plane. I have also heard very good things about the Thunder Tiger Pro 46 as well. Ultimately, I think a Saito 72 would be nice on this plane.

YAY i went for my first flight EVER!! went this morning, but it we only did one tanks becasue there was 20-30 mph wind, and it was 30 degrees. My instructor says i did better in the wind than most of his trianees do without wind.

If it works, i have some pics, sorry they are not of the plane, but i didn't take them, i was concentrating

Send some of your weather here. We have over a foot of snow on the ground and have to shovel a runway. I flew last sunday in 25 mph winds with the temp just under 20 degrees. Tomorrow I will be flying again and it is supposed to be about 10 degrees, but the wind will be minimal.

Congratulations on your first flight. This is a great hobby and it sounds like you are going to enjoy it. You better hurry up and get that extra done. Have you been able to work on it any more?

got the wing mounted, here is a pic

i can't beleive how sturdy the wing is with only one wing boot, but

Is a nylon bolt good enough? i don't plan to take it easy with this plane

This pics are a little foggy due to the cold outside, but all that is left is to attack the ailerons and mount the radio gear. I decided to go with a .46 FX for the power plant.

This shows the cockpit detail a bit clearer. Added canopy trim which made a HUGE visual improvement. Also added canopy trim inside the cockpit around the turtle deck to give it a bit of detail. Not sure why I did the orange safety stripes, but I think they look cool and set it off just right. Got a brand new flight pack on eBay for $75, so as soon as I get that in, it's time to do the CG.

All in all, I am very happy with this, being my first kit build. The next one will be much better. Definately learned a few trick on this one!

Nice job Fletch. You are almost there. My plane is slightly behind yours now. I still have the ailerons, cowl to paint and mount my switch and battery. What are you going to use for a muffler? I have a pitts style, but have been thinking of mounting a mousse can muffler under the landing gear. It would boost the engine performance.

Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. My wife got me a $30 gift cert for Tower for Valentine's Day, and I was thinking of doing the Pitts style muffler. That seems to be the most common. Never heard of a mousse can muffler, but will research it tonight. Just did a day trip from NJ up to Buffalo, and it looks like I have to head to Dallas next week. Probably not going to get back at it for a bit.

we're actually gettin somewhere on the extra! we did the sheeting on the bottom of the fuse, and the belly pan, and i gotta say, it turned ou treally good,

we're probobly only about 1 hour's worth of sanding till we can cover the wing, and some filler, but we probobly won't get to the instructor's house to cover it for a couple weeks, even though he is about a 10 minutes walk, slow walk, away,

hope to get some pics of my trainer in the air, it looks better than all of em of me on the ground,

departing for the work bench,
Scott

go to your local paint and body store and get spray on window tint. I have this one powered with a Super Tigre .61 ringed. Although I did crash it the other day, I came in too slow for a landing and it went into a death spin and, well, you know the rest. I do think I will be able to rebuild it, I hope.

I GOT A NEW PLANE TODAY!! WOO HOO< it is a Goldberg Extreme 3-D 330 Profile, and a 50 SX engine to put on it, but we gota get new servos and receiver to fly it, cuz we don't have enough servos, or a computer rasio, so we are gonna try our best with the Tower Hobbies 6FM

Fletch, have you flown yours yet. I still have the same amount of work to complete mine. I just need one good day to finish it up. The snow is nearly melted here, and our club builders show is coming soon, so I should complete my extra in the next month and will post a flight report. I am looking forward to this plane.

Nope, been on weather hold and have been traveling. I'm all ready to go though. I have had my NexStar up a few times as well as a Lil' Rascal I built for my daughter. I am waiting for the perfect day to maiden the Extra. Not going to take any chances with that one!

instead of using the TOwer Hobbies 6FM to fly my extra with, im gonn ause my new toy, and am gonna use it with my Extreme 330, got it all setup i think, just gotta put RX and battery in. but on extra, got the top left half of the wing done, and changed my idea for the scheme. yellow fuse, with yella wing top, and blu / white alternanting stripes on the bottom like on the box, and 2 blue stripes with a small white stripe in the middle of the fuse
