Default 4*60 turtle deck

I just got a 4*60 and am going through the instruction manual and see the turtle deck with stringers. Is the 60 the same as the 40 with respect to weak stringers? There are five in the turtledeck in the 60. Should I cover them with ply or balsa?

Mine was OK with the stringers.

some will also cover the turtle deck with a 1/32 or 1/64 sheet ply.

I to am about to start building this plane. I have talked about the stingers with members in my club and they suggested I should cover them with 1/32 balsa. They said the balsa will give it added strength and keep the weight down. Also the balsa is easier to work with when you are applying them to the stingers. Hope this helps

our club seems to have a flock of these 4 star 60s ( I love mine!) some are covering the T deck with very thin ply and shooting a little "touch and foam" in for stiffening. works fine just let the foam harden over night and put in just enough ...it DOES expand!
easy to remove slight excess amount AFTER it sets up completly with a serated steak knife....JUST be SURE to return the steak knife to the kitchen lest your wife will stomp your plane!!

I just finished my four star 40

Check this page out...

I used his instructions on the turtle neck and it came out great. I drenched the balsa sheeting with water then used my heat gun, it warped nicely into place.

I didn't do so a very good job on the cowl, I covered it the best I could.
