ok, I just ordered a carl goldberg extra 300.I know this is a old kit & there has to be some useful modifications that I can use to make it better than the original stock kit.Any help would be greatly appreciated.I will be putting a saito fa100 on it & will be using it to learn IMAC.
thanks in advance

Shaun:

I'm just about to finish my CG Extra. Many friends have one or have had one in the past, and the recommendations where:

1. Aluminum Landing Gear. Stock landing gear is useless.

2. Fiberglass Cowl and Wheel pants.

3. Modification needed to put in a larger tank, I can email pictures of this to show you how we did it.

4. Use good quality hinges, the ones that come with the kit are not good.

5. The tail feathers need to be reinforced, use strut tabs. I also put carbon fiber, but this is not needed with the strut tabs.

I bought my cowling and landing gear at http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/cowlkit.htm

Regards,

I flew the CG 300 back when it was a common shelf item in the shops. Great flier and very predictable. I flew it with a Super Tigre .75 and had a blast...

The stock white plastic cowling is very thin and began falling apart from the fuel contact and vapor on the inside. Replace with fiberglass for sure...

TRIPP, the cowl falling off is not a good thing.I'll heed you warning & purchase a fiberglass one.did you get very much vertical with the st75 ? like I said I'll be using my saito100 and hope this will be enough for imac flight.( not in to 3d yet)
thanks

I would suggest you get the glass cowl from Stan's Fibertech in California. Top quality. And I think you will be a little unhappy power-wise unless you go up to a 120, either two or four cycle, if you are planning to fly in competition. I'm on my second one in the last 12 years or so, and have a close acquaintance with at least five others owned by friends, so I am pretty familiar with the plane. One of the finest RC models around, IMHO.
