Default Goldberg Sukhoi 72 inch

I'm looking for a laser cut sukhoi kit. Any opinions on the Goldberg kit? How does it build? And how does it fly? Engine size?

I built a GB Sukhoi back in the early 90's (old style kit) it had a OS 1.20 4-stroke and flew great, but was under powered. The landing gear which was wing mounted ripped out several times, but when it was properly re-enforced it was fine. I sold the kit a few years later and regretted it. However, I'm currently building another one of the old-style kits, it's not the funest or easiest kit to build but worth it. The new style goldberg kit I do not believe is lasar cut, but should be nice. I'm putting a OS 160 FX in mine! Also, junk the plastic cowl on get a Stan's fiberglass cowl and belly pan, they are very nice!

The new kit moved the gear to the fuse and has laser cut parts. Definitely get the fibreglass belly pan and cowl.

I got my kit when they were re-released and am about to start the build. The wood quality is great, components are great.

How it build and flies, I'll know over the next 2-3 months

I bought a Saito 1.80 for mine

I just bought mine from an individual and it is a later kit. I will check when I get home for laser cut parts. I have the fiberglass parts and will also power mine with a Saito 180. I just need to fine a paint scheme. Later

Here it is. Gotta ask though, why do you want a pic of laser cutting?

Oh well, enjoy

I don't know I just like to see pictures! Some websites say the ki is die-cut, even CG site mentions a little about die-cutting. That must be nice! Why are you guys using the 180? I definately like the 4stroke, but my old sukhoi with the OS 120 just wasn't enough. I thought about the 180, but already have a 160 2stroke!!!

On the "new" kit, is the tail group airfoiled or flat?

I'm gonna use two elevator servos mounted in the tail.

The tail group is flat, at least according to the plans I unrolled.

Just fyi, all the parts sheets are lazer with the new kit from what I can see. There were a few versions of theSukhoi from CG. I did a bunch of research on this before getting one but this is the data I found (probably others exist as well but ...)

Original had wheels mounted on wing with APC cowl and bellypan with die cutting

Then I found some that had wheels on fuse with apc cowl and bellypan with die cutting

The last version before CG kinda shut the doors for awhile also had a glass fuse and belly pan, wheels on fuse and some laser cutting (this was out the same time as the apc version but started later.)

I've seen a few shops with various versions in stock when I was looking.

Then when Lanier (or whomever) bought CG, they released the Sukhoi after a bunch of the other planes (I waited 6 months) as they were re-tooling which is probably why everything is laser cut (at least that I've seen so far)

Why the 1.80?? Because my buddy said it was too much engine From what I read a 1.50 is fine but the 1.80 is only 2mm higher and I can manage throttle control but have extra power, just in case.

I bought 2 digitals for the elevator. One 1/4 scale high torque analogue for a pull pull rudder, 1 med torque for each aileron and a standard servo for the throttle.

Hope this helps

I had all standard JR (I think 517's) on everything on my old Sukhoi. I put a couple hundred flights on it also. I'm not sure what servos I'll use, I have some 4131's in a pattern plane I don't fly anymore so maybe I'll use those.

The Stans cowling and bellypan are very nice!

I wonder since the new ARF has an airfoiled tailgroup, will CG ever incorporate it into it kits?

I should be done in the next couple of weeks with my plane, I'm about to join the wings. The Fuselage is done with the tail mounted. I'll be able to begin covering the fuselage soon, do you have any recommended covering scheme's? My last one was solid Dark red moncoke with some black stipes, it was too conservative.

Just found I can get cowl and belly pan from Carbon Copy here in UK. Looking forward to Spring when I can get this bird to leave the nest.

Davej78, did you buy yours in the UK recently? If so can you let me know where from, I am thinking of getting one, but as far as I know they have not returned to the UK since Lanier took them over.

Cheers.

Nuker,

I read that you are building a Sukhoi (Goldberg). I got a Sukhoi and need some data because I have nothing: no plans, ... All I know is that it has a on piece wing, roughly 73" (very close to the one you are building) and it has a fiberglass cowl and the part under the wing (but this can be purchased seperatlely). Well, looking at the color scheme it's 2 different blues and white and the motor box, the guy either knew how to do it or it's an ARF - don't know?!?!
I would need:
- CG, how many inches from the leading edge
- throws (elevator, ailerons, rudder
and anything else you might think is useful.
I also posted a thread called " Sukhoi -26 need data"

It would be great if you could help me!

Thanks
Rainer

I am about to build one of these CG Sukhoi kits. I bought the kit from the LHS, and it is about 5 years old with all plastic parts right now. Engine range says.91 up to 1.2, is this the same one? The LHS owner is into gasoline weedwacker conversions and suggests that I should go with an 18cc conversion. What do you guys think? It is such a beautiful plane and I am getting ready to build it after my CG Super Chippy.

My newer CG sukhoi came with a glass cowl and bellypan, and it was laser cut . In the past i've used stans for my glass parts.
Right now im in the process of rebuilding a older CG sukhoi fuse to accept a newer style wing. I think the hardest part is removing all of the old covering *L* man thats a job in itself.
Caution!! for them of you that havent done this ,if you run a 1.6 OS or any of the larger 2 Strokes ya best add some flying wires to the tail feathers or you wont have them long.even with 2 servos I still had probs.
