I built this one - 4*40 - this winter. I made the first flights this last weekend. These planes sure are a lot of fun, and are quite easy to fly.
It is metallic charcoal and metallic green monokote. In the air and at a distance, the top looks like the bottom. So far it has not been a problem, but I am sure to lose orientation with it someday.
My rocky flying site is already beating up the covering on the bottom. When it gets bad enough, I will do what I should have done to begin with and give it some contrast.

My two 4* 40s
Plan on smoking the chopped down canopy on the Flag version. Will chop the canopy on the yellow 4* and then find a pilot. Really want a Jimmy Neutron as the kids like him a lot. If I share my toys with the kids my wife lets me buy more!

Here are some pictures of the 4 Star 40 I just finished this spring. I have about 8 flights on it or so. Of course, it flies great like most 4 Stars. It is powered by an OS .46 FX, and I am running Futaba flight gear. FP-S148 servos on the rudder, elevator, and throttle, and a S3004 on the ailerons. I shortened the wing one bay on each side and added rounded wing tips. I also extended the rudder 1 inch and trimmed down the canopy. It is covered with red and white Ultracoat on the upper surfaces, and checkerboard on the bottom. It shows up really nice in the air with this color scheme and is very easy to tell the top from the bottom.

Howdy Jay... I'll put up a couple of mine. One is a 4*40 converted to a bipe w/ O.S. 61sf. Lower wing chopped off a bay, top wing built flat, LG bock move ahead 1.5 inch due to the added nose weight and staggered wings.
The other is a 120 version all rounded off w/ Saito 1.50. The LE of the tail group was smoothed into the fuse as well as having the surfaces all rounded, canopy chopped down until in line with turtle deck, dash panel assembled and installed using the old molded line in the canopy, covering was cut using a rounded scheme to match the rounding of the tips and tail group.

Here's the first photos of the 4 * kit I've almost completed. Since the photos, I've extended the checkers over the ailerons and elevators. I plan on adding wheel pants too.

Got pics! Mods include an access panel for TWO batteries in the rear fuse (to balance out that heavy Rossi .45 on the nose), pushrod tube down the bottom of the fuse for the receiver antenna, support rods from the cowl cheeks to the gear, Sullivan spring tail wheel, Sullivan flex throttle cable w/ball link to carb, and re-formed fuel tank bay with 10 oz Dubro tank. Wish I'd done the canopy cutdown; I'll save that for the next crash....

I'm almost finished this one. It too has a Saito 91 on the nose and a fiberglass Smith Mini Biplane cowl on it.
Wings have flames from the leading edge forward to.

That is one nice covering job, looks great. balsa cowl, polsihed landing gear(am I right?)
Cut canopy, nice turttle deck. nice wing tips.
Looks great, I liked it a lot.
What is the engine ?, looks like O.S. 61 FX.
Is the bottom all red, do you have any problems seeing it?
