The reviews I read on the Extra said it was an easy build. I haven't built Sig kits for many years, but I'm about ready to try them again. Since Hazel (Sig) regained control of the company, I think quality is back to the old standards.

I've built practically every kind of plane you can think of, except for an Extra. Anyway, I'm thinking of getting one just for a change of pace, but will make it a one piece wing.
Good luck
BO

I am building my second one now. I still have my first, I just want to put some extra mods on this one. They are very easy to build and a dream to fly. It will make you think you are the greatest pilot. And for the landing, it will glide in as slow as you want.

I'm about half done with my SE... It's my second kit, first was a Four-Star. Anyway, from what I've seen so far I don't think you'd have any trouble at all building a SE as your first kit.

The SIG SE is an easy build! you'll be surprised at how fast it can be put together, and how the parts fit.

A truely great plane..

I am in the middle of covering my SE (my first kit). It goes together just like a puzzle and the fit of the parts is right on. A couple of things that I did.

1. In the tank compartment, I used a dremel to make the ARC bigger in the back of the shelf the tank sits on. If you don't, the tank cannot be removed from the back because it hits the cardboard wing tube. Now I can pull out the tank if I need to work on it.

2. I added light ply to the area in the tail where the bolt is for the wing wires. It is the area where the dowel is added to the light ply with a hole in it. I then added a Sullivan Tail Wheel assembly using this hole for one in the Sullivan frame. This way you can attach the wing wire bold through the tail assembly by placing the wing wire end between the fuse bottom and the tail wheel bracket.

3. Be careful (very careful) putting on the LE wing sheeting it is only 1/16" in thickness and can crack or split very easily.

4. Read the Canopy hatch cover instructions very carefully when adding the 3/32" deck sheeting to the frame. My sheeting just would not bend. I split them close to the base of the hatch and had to replace.

5. This is an option, so you can do it or not, I bought a higher and wider landing gear so the prop tips will clear the ground a little more. (I have seen the stock gear bend pretty easily.)

That's pretty much what I experienced. I should have the covering done by some time late this week. Both wings are done and I am moving to the fuse next. The kit itself is a pretty easy build, just follow the instructions (which are very good) and build away.
