alright everyone need a little help. I have built a 4*40 no problems, tried to goto sig hog bipe and ran into a little problem. the wings are dealing me fits right now, seems i have a small warp in the top wing. so i have put it aside and figured to build another kit to get me up to par and finish the bipe later. flying is no problem i have trained on a sig lt40 and hobbico superstar select, then moved to the tower voyager, gp super sportster 40mrkII, sig 4*40 which i built, finishing a gp pt-19,and hangar 9 funtana along with a gp cessena 40. just the building is what im having a problem with so any suggestions on a good second kit to build to help me out would be great. I have really enjoyed building the 4*40 and flying it knowing that i built it so any help would be great thanks alot mike lansford

I'll put a qualifier first. I have not built the hog bipe.
Now, it sounds like your spars are warped. Or as you glued the TE or LE on you may have had them bent out of shape. Have you applied shear webbing to the front and rear of the spars?
Ok,Ok. The hog bipe is a difficult kit. I have a friend that is building one and it requires time and patience.(lots of both) If you want to build up your building skills cheaply then I would say look at the Towerhobbies Uproar. There are many excellent kits out there. It might help if you tell us what size engine your working with.

yeah the engine is not a problem i have a 91 2 stroke from os along with a 46fx, along with a saito 72 4 stroke. i planned on buying a plane and engine together so engine choice is whatever kit i get. I did notice the warp in the wing after the l.e. was glued on i just figured i would put ot aside til later on when i get a few build under my belt. I have been looking at the great planes ultra sport and putting retracts in it to get a feel for installing retracts thanks for your help mike

The GP Ultra Sport is fabulous.
But don't put the bipe away just yet. You said you noticed the warp after adding the LE sheeting... Have you sheeted BOTH sides yet? (Top and Bottom, not left and right)
If not, go ahead and sheet the other side while holding the wing straight. That should straighten it out.

Applying shear webbing will straighten out warps also. Horizontal on the front, vertical on the rear. Just make sure the wing is straight while applying. I assume you haven't put on the LE sheeting because you said you stopped after the LE was glued on. As Minnflyer said the sheeting is also a good time to straighten out warps. Actually, the wood is usually warped, especially spar material. It's because of the temperature and humidity changes. Some materials are worse than others. Balsa, for instance, won't warp at all usually. The trick is to check the warp and use two spars that are warped the same way and turn one upside down. The wing will rarely be completely straight until the LE and TE sheeting are on.
Great Planes kits are very straight forward builds. Good quality hardware, too. Most of the ones I have built framed up in less than a week of afternoons. The ultra sport is also a great flyer with retracts. It really cleans up when you retract the wheels.

did you say the wrap was after or before the spar sheeting was added ? the only solution may be spraying/ soaking with Windex/ annonia - propping it up just a little more than the bow, crown up, apply the weights, mostly in the center of the bow. if its in the shear webs, the only solution is to slit them length wise., approx 1/32" , 1st and the apply the weights. it works for me. dick --oh yes. after the bow is out APPLY CA to the slit.

I think you should correct the mistake and finish the Hog. It's real tempting to put it aside if there's a warp. I've been there, so I know, but you'll get a whole lot of pride and satisfaction in finishing a terrific plane. The Hog gives you lots of opportunity to be creative and it's a piece of cake to fly
