I have a Saito 72 engine which I intend to use on my next project. These are the planes I am considering:
GP Giles 202 46
GP RV-4
GP Extra 300S 40
GP Cap 232 40
or perhaps a biplane
Sig Hog Bipe .60-.65 54.5"
GP Ultimate Biplane 40
Any ideas on which plane NOT to use it in??? And of course, why?
Thanks,
Luis

It's a little small for a Hog Bipe or the Gile 202. The others are good candidates. The Cap will require moving the firewall back about 3/4" because of the length of the Saito. I was going to use a Saiot 72 in mine but got to checking and discovered the Saito is longer than the 70 surpass, the surpass sits all the way back on the mount in order to get the backplate demension right. I had it framed before I bought an engine.
The Extra is a nice flier, a buddy has one with a 46fx and it longs for a 72 4-stroke. I havent seen the RV-4 or the GP Ultimate in person so ??? I had considered the Ultimate but bought the Cap instead. The Giles really needs a 91 and my Hog is perfect with a 100GK. Hope this helps.

Luis, after comparing info in both manuals, the Saito is only 3mm longer than the OS and should fit ok in the Cap. I must have gotten some bogus info at the time I was doing research.[>:]

I have the GP Extra 300S 40 with a Magnum XLS 52A mounted. It has nice vertical and is very aerobatic. If you build this plane, I would recommend reinforcing the landing gear with some 1/4" x 1/4" balsa on all sides of the plates where the gear meets the fuse. I broke mine out after only about fifteen flights and on the first hard landing. The plane is very stable flying and lands easily. Knife edge is great and the large rudder makes stall turns easy.
I don't know your flying experience, but either of the three (extra, giles, cap) will make nice aerobatic planes.

Thank you guys. I am considering the Phoenix Giles 202.
I believe it is a smaller version of the Giles, and the Saito 72 should work well on it. Also, it is an affordable ARF, so I'll probably dedicate my construction efforts to a twin engine or a warplane

I have a RV-4 with a .46 and it is a great little sport model. It should match up real well with the .72. Just remember to put the flaps on it. They're kind of fun to have.
I am in the process of building the Ultimate. I am really enjoying this project, but if you go this route take some weight saving measures on the fuselage. It is built kind of heavy.

I also would recommend the GP Ultimate bipe with the saito 72. I had one and it rocked. I finally got tired of flying it and someone made me an offer that I couldn't refuse so I sold it. Here are some pictures of the plane with the saito installed.
