Default Robart hinge point question

I've been thinking about using hinge points on my Tower Hobbies Uproar 60. The version that needs 3/16" doesn't leave much 'meat' in 1/4" sticks. Is the 1/8" version strong enough for this plane? The control surfaces are pretty big.

I would back up the 1/4" sticks with 1/2 x 1/4" balsa blocks (About an inch and a half long), and use the 3/16 hinges
