Default TT F-91S 4-Stroke + Sig 4 Star 60

I just bought a Sig 4 Star 60 and would like to match this plane with a good performing 4 Stroke. Anyone have experience with the Thunder Tiger F-91S? Will a 91 be enough to power my Sig 4 star 60? I also have a Super Tigre 75 Ring as well, Will the 91 be close to the same power?

Thanks!

TT 91 fs is what I use. Works good and balances perfect. If it is new check the valve adjustment. If it's used and you never have, do it. If you have never done it before get some one who knows how to show you. I always remove the rear cover and check for shavings before running any engine the first time. If you have to clean it be sure to oil it up good again. Run at least a 1/2 gallon thru it on a test stand. Help get it settled in some before flying. A gallon would be better. Will make it a lot easier to tune. Expect to do some very fine tuning to the low needle for some time, but not till it needs it! I keep having to lean my low side once in a while. Still breaking in I guess. I run a 14x6 prop. I have 2 of them with this engine, a SIG and a COR STAR

Is it worth getting a saito 100 for the extra $$$??? 1/2 gallon of fuel sounds like a lot for break in.. How much power does a tt 91 have compaired to a 2 stroke 60-75? I noticed the HP rating on this and the OS is about the same as the Tower 46 and close to my tt pro 46. (which is an outstanding motor)

I used the same engine TT91 fs on my 4*60. Very good combo. I just ran 2 tanks on ground then flew it. Adjust valves after first gallon. GOOD Combo

For a .91 4 stroke under $200 i'm suprised there isn't much hype on this forum about it.

For a time the TT .91 had a problem with the rocker arm coming loose, as I recall. The nut holding it on wasn't tightened or Lock-Tited. This happened to one of my club mates. TT did replace the parts for free, no questions asked so I am sure they were aware of the problem. I would assume it has been fixed by now.

They are also notorious for taking a very long time to break-in. After about 3 gallons, they are claimed by some to be as powerful as the Saito 100.

They are very heavy compared to other 4-stroke .91s. As I recall, they are 6 oz heavier than the Saito and 4 oz heavier than the Magnum or OS. It depends on whether you need the weight up front or not.

There have been some long threads on the TT .91, search back for them.

Another .91 4-stroke that is priced less than $200 is the Magnum .91. Tower is giving discounts and many times Hobby People has sales on Mags. I have 1 of these and 2 Saitos and the Mag runs very well. I bought it after the .61 4-stroke I bought ran so well. I liked the .91 so much I bought the .70.

I can't say enough good about my magnum .91 4 stroke. It's fantastic and pulls very well with a 14x8 prop and an 8 pound spacewalker II. I only ran two tanks through it on the ground, set the high speed needle and then set the idle needle and it idled fantastic and ripped that airplane off the ground easily. I think that the TT 91FS and a sig 4*60 would be very good together. I have a friend with the Saito 100 in one and it flys very well too but the airframe as a whole is very light on the wing so a ton of engine is not required for a ton of fun. The .91 should provide very substantial straight up performance with the right prop so I doubt the expense of a saito is needed. Plus - a saito requires just as much break-in as any other engine out there. Frankly I'm surprised my Magnum .91 ran so well out of the box.

I have never owned a 4-stroke, will a .91 4-stroke equil the power of my Super Tigre G-75?

Glad you guys like the .91FS - 4*60 Combo, I have ordered a 4*60 to build and plan to get an OS .91-fs for it.

I'm afraid when I out grow the 4 Star 60 I will be stuck with a engine that isn't powerful enough for my next plane. Somthing like an GP Extra 300 60 or the GP Skybolt. Maybe I should look at a 120 class motor and just use throttle management? Or will the TT F-91 be a better performing engine then I suspect?
