Santa got me an SSE for Christmas and I was thinking about powering it with an OS .50SX. Any thoughts or opinions on this? Will it be too much engine for the plane or just enough? Thanks, Gene

I can't comment on the 50 SX, but I've had 3 Sig SE's and they all have been powered with a OS 46 FX. They plane has plenty of power, but just short of pulling out of a hover. But I don't fly 3D so this isn't a problem. Putting the 50 SX should be plenty of motor for you.

It's not to much engine for the plane. I had the 50 on the ARF version. I put it in before really getting around to trying to hover it, but during a pull up from a harrier it could easily accelerate vertically. Never had it drop out of a vertical climb...or even slow down for that matter.
I have seen some with the Irvine 53 and also the saito .72, both give better performance than the OS 50, IMO. However, the saito will require taller landing gear. I have a kit in the workshop waiting for space to build, I bought an Irvine 53 for that one.

I had a kit built SSE with a 50sx and it was a VERY nice combination. I've had excellent luck with all my OS 50s. Yes they are a little more expensive but my dealer only carries OS so it is beneficial in the long run if I need parts. As for the combo it weighs like 1/3 of an ounce more than a 46fx so the combo is pretty light by SE standards. Power was good and the biggest prop I would dare use was a 12" diameter. 12x4 gives you good torque and plenty of speed. I could hover my SE pretty easily with a decent pullout on 15%, now I have the same engine on a profile with a tower pipe running 20% nitro - it's a ROCKET!
BTW - I've flow SE's with Saito 72, 56, OS 46 and 50. The four strokes just don't fit the SE's for some reason, the plane really just "fits" a good 2 stroke.

Hi, thanks for the reply. After reading about the plane and listening to so many others who have this plane I think I am going to stick with my original choice, the 50SX. Thanks again, Gene

I read that comment about weight in the instructions as well but putting my Magnum .61 rfs seemed like the right thing to do and I required zero added weight to balance it properly.

Very nice. My wife likes purple so it will end up with light purple and yellow in MonoKote. She says the color combo will work. Thanks, Gene
