Default Carden Extra 300 26% or Midwest Extra 300 27%

I am looking at getting into a gasser and would like an extra. I have been looking at the 26% Carden Extra and the Midwest Extra. The pro's of the Carden is the 2 piece wing and good reputaion. The midwest cost about 130 dollars less (Have to by glass cowl/wheel pants $85.00) and has more wing. I am thinking of putting a 50cc class engine in it. I would like to hear what people think of either of these planes.

I had the Midwest Extra. Had a Moki on it though, not gas. Straight forward construction. Very good customer service from Midwest. The plane flew very well. No bad habits. Really nice plane, IMHO.

I can give you a heads up on both, since I have built and flown both.

There is NO comparison between the two. The Carden wins by a long shot.

I have built two of the Carden's...one with a Brison 2.4 and the other with a BME 2.7. My MW Extra had a Moki 2.1 in it. The Cardens slow speed handling is MUCH better than the MW, has less pitch couple and no roll couple.

One draw back to the Carden.....it is harder to build, but once in the air you will forget all about that.

Thanks for the comparison. I've been thinking about replacing the MW Extra I had and was also curious to know how the two compared.

Do you think a BME or DA 50 would be to much for the Carden? There is only a couple of ounce difference between the 40 and the 50.

What makes the Carden more difficult to build?
What makes the Midwest easier to build?
Thanks

Default carden 26% Extra

I flew the Carden Extra 300, 26% with Moki 1.8 glow for two years until a mid-air sent her down. Great Airplane.

How about the World Models 300 Extra? Its an 80" ARF and would be nice with a 50cc gaser.

Supposed to be a nice plane. Looks great and world models does a great job with building and covering.

I have heard good things about the World Models Extra but I really what to build one. I do love to build and I know that if I build one it will be the way I want it. I have been flying 2 ARF's this last year because I have been building to many planes for other people.
