4 Star 40 Wing Sheeting
Hello Builders,
I recently started building a 4*40 kit. I would like to do a D type sheeting on the wing. I do not like how the ARF's look, you can see each rib from the LE back. Could I get some Photos or details on how to do it from any of you who have done it.
Thanks,
Mike

I just cut down all the wing ribs to match the ones that have the sheeting around them (close to the fuse). Once they are all cut, build the wing as normal, and when you get to the sheeting just carry it out to the tip of the wing. Here's a couple pics of mine... it's a four star 60.

The wings are ready for the LE to Spar sheeting, now I just need to get some more balsa for the sheeting. I'll also be putting Dual aileron servos in it as well. See attached photos

The wing, as originally designed, is what is called a Turbulator design. The extra spars and the ensuing bumps in the covering create a desired lift characteristic common to the Four Star series.
I'm only trying to explain why it was designed the way it was. Your plane will fly fine with a D-tube wing.
Enjoy,
Jim

w8ye,
I didn't realize that it was designed that way. I just like how sheeted wings look, a nice smooth finish.
Thanks,
Mike

I did it the same way MR70SS did it. I took off the area of the W4 (I think it's W4) ribs. This way you can lay down balsa sheeting all the way across. It is on a BTE Venture 60. The wing turned out OK.

Swager,
I just put the W1 rib on top of each W2 rib and trimmed the 4 sections 1/16" off of each W2 rib. From the spar forward they are all the same. I'll use two pieces of 1/16" sheeting on top and two on the bottom of the wing. Sounds like I did it the same as you and mr70ss.
Are the Venture 60 and the Four Star 60 a lot similar in design? This is my first balsa build, I have built several SPADs and Foamies, hence the tag line in my signature.
Thanks for sharing,
Mike

mr70ss,
Sorry I didn't tell you sooner, your finished 4*60 looks great. I read through the thread you did on it last night. I'm thinking of doing a cowl on my 4*40. I may even bash it into a Airtractor 402b or 502b.
Later,
Mike

Don't get too excited about a Venture 60 unless you can find some plans and scratch build one.
They are indefinetly unavailable - out of stock. Bruce is spread too thin....
The plane is supposed to be an improvement of the Four Star 60 which Bruce didn't design? the landing gear is swept back to make landing easier, The rudder has a swept hinge line and more mass at the bottom to improve knife edge, and a single wing servo to save weight.
Enjoy,
Jim

Thanks MR70SS, your 4 Star is nice!
BTE is making another run at the Venture 60. E-mail Bruce and get details. He has always been kind enought to return my e-mails.
The Venture 60 is a wonderful build!
