Default Goldberg Super Chipmunk Engine Recommendation

Hey guys, I am getting ready to build the Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk and I was looking for suggestions on an engine. I am leaning toward either an OS 61FX or an OS 91FX. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am planning on running separate aileron servos and adding a fiberglass cowl and wheel pants and possibly a smoke system. Thanks

Hi geno472,

I have a ST 75 in mine and it provides plenty of power for the way I fly. Whils't the ST performs very well it sounds like a two stroke. If I were building the Super Chippy today I would wait until I could afford a Saito 82 or similar quality four stroke.

Based on my experience with the ST swinging a Bolly Clubman 12.5 x 6 the 91 would significantly overpower the model............but lots of people like that[sm=sunsmiley.gif]

Cheers,

Colin

A fellow club member has an OS 91FS in his, what a great sound when it flew by low. Oh..and build the flaps they work very well.

Tha .61 will fly it very well. A .91 Fs will fly it well also but sounds so much better. I think this plane is made to have a .91 four stroke in it.

Geno, If you're debating between those two engines, go with the 91FX. The two engines weigh the same, so why not go with the extra power. I have the 91FX in my Goldberg Chipmunk and and I would not rate it as over powered at all. I do plan to switch to a 4-stroke in the near future, probably a Saito 100........RS

61 fx or Saito 82 will fly it but Saito 91 or Saito 100 is obviously better.
This is mine with Saito 91 (the best bid for a $ today)

IMHO anyone who puts a 2-stroke in this plane should be beaten with a stick.

Aside from that, if you want smoke, you REALLY should consider a 4-stroke.

An OS 91 is all it needs.

A YS 110 would be outrageous

This is also a good candidate for the heavier TT 91. Great power...better price!

My two old CG Chipmunks both had the OS91 Four Stroke and were fantastic !
